Project Black & White Devil

Introduction

So this project started in my mind about a year ago, before the case, I needed the tools and the know how, so far the tools have been the biggest investment, since I had no tools for this project, I actually barely had any tools at all, took me some time but I bought all I needed including dremel, jigsaw, a decent drill, holesaw, measuring tools etc... you get the picture, the know how also took me a while never done any DIY before, so spend allot of time here on OC.net looking and reading allot of worklogs and also on youtube seeing allot of videos about modding and watercooling, also used my old case, has my test dummy, poor thing suffered allot in my hands, but the knowledge I took from it was precious.
The original plan was a Corsair 700D, unfortunately by the time I came around to buy the dam case, Corsair stop making them, after 3 months of search I gave up, no one had any 700D, so after allot of research I finally picked up this beauty the PC-A71F, and I got say I love it, got it today and already started working on it.
I'm not gonna reveal the entire project but I can tell you that, the interior will be White, there will be a 480 rad, and a total of 12x 120mm fans.

The Worklog

As soon as I got it already started to tare it part rolleyes.gif

The Box itself its pretty F*up, but well it came from Germany, at least everything inside was intact.

338

This are some thumb screws to replace the motherboard tray toolless gizmo, not sure the name of it, I think that thing is dam ugly, so its going out, also the 2 bags are 2x 25 cm White leds strip.

338

Here it is the led strip, will probably have to buy another strip, I bought the wrong size, doesn't matter.

Here are some more pictures of the case after unboxing. Got say its a really imposing case.

338

Now here something interesting, found this by accident in a PC shop, this is surely gonna save me some time with cable management, were a bit expensive tho 10 euros a piece (ship included), but worth it.

338

And here is were the fun begins... 1st thing out is the ugly tooless well... gizmo, thumbs screws look way much better, why ppl like tooless so much where is the fun in that.

338

Shes getting naked...

338

Finally after nearly an hour I took almost everything apart, I'm still gonna remove the top hard drive bay and the Drive bay, I won't have any needs for Drive bays, I will need the space for something else, but since the rest I have to take off is riveted, It will have to be done tomorrow, since its already night here and I do live in an apartment, neighbors don't enjoy noise, also will try to start working on this:

This is a aluminum panel 100cmx60cm, that I will be using to make some parts for the case, hope I can make it in the 1st attempt so I don't have to buy more. 8D

Actually my bad, there was a part of the name missing its the Black & White Devil, I'm not very good at naming things, so I try to keep it simple. =)

Those fan connector hubs are hot! The only ones I can find locally are ugly green and I don't feel like dying them. Do those have a brand name that can be had on the web?

I saw your log, like it, only thing I didn't like was the case 8D, the front panel of the A70 is a turn of to me, I prefer clean front panels, but thats just my taste, your build is pretty awesome tho.

Update: 8/12/2011

So here we go today had more time and started working on striping the rest of her guts, did find some rivets that force me to get my dremel, because of the odd positions of the rivets, the motherboard tray rivets, can't understand why they didn't just put some screws in the lower part, since they put screws in the top of the motherboard tray, but well, after a bit of work everything came out nicely:

DSC01057.JPG

DSC01059.JPG

Started working on the motherboard tray and on that big aluminum sheet I showed before, was tricky to cut it mainly because I don't have the proper space to do it, and had also a hiccup, the jigsaw saw escaped and bended lucky I had a replacement but it left a mark in the plate, nothing I can't fix with a dremel, even then the cut was decent, considering the improvise setup.

DSC01056.JPG

DSC01060.JPG

Yeah thats my kitchen but was the only place I had space to cut something that size LOL.

After some work with a file on the rugged edges, its better then I expected to, heres some test fitting.DSC01061.JPG

DSC01065.JPG

Tomorrow if I have time I'll do the holes for fixating the new tray, and the marking for the motherboard standups, even tho I'm suspecting, I might hit a snag there, the aluminum panel is allot more thick then the old mb tray, meaning that the standups might make the mb stay to high not sure how I'm gonna deal with this but I'll figure something out.
