Bluescreen on install of windows 7

Thread Starter
I am trying to install windows 7 x64 on an older computer for an HTPC. When i boot from cd the bar at the bottom loads completely, then when it says windows is starting up and the four colors come to make the windows logo it gets a blue screen with nothing but some hexadecimal codes.

Specs are:
P4 prescott 2.8ghz 800 mhz fsb 64 bit support
RC410-m motherboard (out of an HP)
2gb ddr2 apacer
200gb seagate hd (i also tried 2 80G) all sata
onboard graphics 430w power supply
IDE DVD Rw

Any ideas whats wrong?
My wallet is sad.

The usual problen is an old optical drive.

With Win7 M$ tightened the specs for optical data.

See if there is a firmware update available for your optical drive.

If HP doesn't have one you have to get the drive manudacturer'e name and the model number from the sticker in the optical drive and try their website.

So i tried it with 3 different drives two of which installed windows 7 just fine on other computers and it gives the same stop 0x0000005c or something. I dont know if this helps but it ts all zeros except for the 5c at the end.

A google search found that some HP computers had issues installing vista and would give a 0x0000005c code. It said that it was due to a bad BIOS version. As you have an HP mobo you may trying to find a newer version of the BIOS, be sure though that you verify the download using a MD5 checksum and then make sure you don't interupt power during the flash.

Also from checking with msdn 0x0000005c is a HAL error which deals with the hardware. Read in another thread and it was interpreted as "Usually it is either a need for a bios update, or the motherboard is simply too old for W7."

Very likely it's the motherboard. Wouldn't be trying to run 7 on a P4 anyways..
Finally an i7

I've had HP motherboards that would refuse to install Linux.
