Just Upgraded to 5970!

Thread Starter
Just got my 5970 reference card from Newegg's BF sale ($300). Replaced my aging 4850 and WHAT A WORLD of difference.

Running Crysis 2 on Ultra everything, the details are so clear its making my head hurt lol.

Got this card with the intentions of keeping my current 775 platform alive for another year or two. I had originally planned on a new rig by 2012 w/Ivy Bridge, but so far the Q9550 is chugging along just fine, thanks to the SSD and the 5970. I don't think I'd do anything so intensive that my CPU would become the bottleneck.

NIce upgrade the 5970 is still a beast of a card and still ranks on top 10.

Dont you think that card would be bottlenecked by your CPU? I am coming from a LGA775 platform myself and I have to say a Q9550 even at 3.4GHz is kinda pushing the limits for that GPU IMO.

BTW, Crysis 2 is hardly a stunning game, and visually shouldn't even be called a successor. Try playing some "real" visually stunning games, such as Crysis Warhead or BF3. That'd push your card right biggrin.gif

Definitely a pretty crazy card for $300!

But definitely get Battlefield 3 running on that baby!

I know I know. Just waiting for it to go on sale on Steam.

Also I didnt know that Crysis WH is more demanding than Crysis 2. I have both so might have to try it out. And RE: Birdman I honestly havent felt that the CPU was a bottleneck in any task. The only thing I could think of is maybe when I'm ripping DVDs or BluRays.

Unless he have a 120Mhz Monitor or he runs an eyefinity set up, he won't see any difference bottlenecking or not since he will be able to get 60fps in basically anything he plays minus Metro wich can still be acheived by turning AA off... the Q9XX0 are aging but they are still decent for normal gaming. (ie 1080p).

OP tell us at what resolution you play?

2048x1152. slightly above 1080p but nothing crazy.
