How would you react to this? I'm at a loss for words. - Page 3

You have to say something, don't let your sister get ripped off.
i3 2100 or an older 1156 chip
used mobo
used case or if you buy new get an Arc midi/400R/500R
8gb of RAM (because it's like $30 these days)
used gtx 560 ti/460/470 or radeon 6850/6870/5850/5870
used 500w psu
120gb SSD
used 500gb HDD

That's a nice cheap build up there^ that would be more than enough for you nephew. Also make sure he builds it himself, it's a good learning experience.

But either way I would find out the full list. Maybe the guy is clueless and just thinks. Minecraft, it can be played in a web browser, web browsers use cpu, NEEDS MOAR CORES!! Although Id recomend for best bang for buck and future proofing for a childs first gaming pc, new revision of the 560ti or a 6850/70 along with a core i3 or i5.

Actually I think that would be bad as when the kid doesn't get 10 things the next year he get's mad....

Anyway I think his sister's friend works for AMD. tongue.gif

I was at a dental office that spent $40K on computers, including 5K on their server. LMAO the sofware they run could be served by a P4. Then they're telling me that the server has to be reset at least once a day, sometimes more, and that the installer stopped supporting them in less than a year. What a scam.
Most people have absolutely no clue what hardware specs they really need, and unfortunately in all walks of life there are honest people and those who will oversell and take advantage if they see that someone is naive.
Offer to help her do it, and if she's defensive and refuses, then she gets what she deserves for not trusting the right person.
This.

What a chump. Makes sense tongue.gif

You don't need anything more than an i3 2100 and a 460 here. How old is the boy? He's not playing ANYTHING intensive, and when he does perhaps he can learn how expensive computers actually are and get a job to build a new one. I would tell your sister how you feel, but don't get too involved. Some people get REALLY offended when they are wrong.

I don't think he's being ignorant or taking advantage at all, honestly. I just think he figured she's not technical savvy, and to get her what he thinks would work well for her, for the right price. X6 isn't really that expensive in comparison to an X4, so it's no big deal. Also, most games these days still don't even utilize four cores, so it's not like the difference between getting a four core and a six core would be any different in that argument. Try and have a conversation with her about it, and explain to her why the recommended components aren't necessary for what her son wants and needs. If all he wants to do is play those type of games, he won't need much, but there's also future proofing.
She's probably a "More is better" type of person. As everyone else said, those games use 2 cores max. 6 cores is too much. If she still wants a 6 core, buy her a 1090T. If she goes to Best Buy, dis own her biggrin.gif

Just offer her to help build your nephew's computer. If she refuses and gets screwed then she deserves it. Done deal. Better to have a close relative (brother) who you trust to do it instead of someone else.
