Best Crossfire Cards, If Any

post #1 of 13
Thread Starter
Hey all,
I'm looking to upgrade my card from a GTX 465 to an ATI pair since my mobo only supports xfire. I heard a lot of microstuttering and was curious what cards would be best. I was looking at 2 6780s. Any help in determining the best cards for the price and info about crossfire'a risks and benefits!

Thanks!

With the recent issues with CF in newer games (been like this for a year already), you might want to grab a single 6950 which is about 1/3 faster than your GTX 465!

Well if I'm going to upgrade, i'd rather just get two cards and get a higher percentage difference. Is 30% high? And what are these CF issues recently? Just curious about the severity of them!

I guess the bigger question is: is there a single card that can equal or out preform a pair of 6870s for the same price?

Ok. The best answer is it is not worth upgrading right now. 7000 series is do out within the next month or two, wait for those to come out.

If you seriously want to upgrade right now, then grab 2x 6870's. They have like 97%+ scaling when in xfire, there may be issues game depending though. It seems AMD has had issues with every new game that has come out this year.

From what I have heard, 6950/6970 performance for 6850/6870 price, somewhere in that range. So yes, there is a price reduction on those cards if you look at it from that aspect.

If you are looking to pick up a good 6870 combo though, it will be right when the 7k series comes out, people will be selling their old cards used.

if anything, i would wait for the 79xx series to release. the 7970 is going to be (according to speculations) as fast as a 6990, at a price point of $450,- the 7950 is going to be 1.5-2x faster than a single 6950, at a price point of 350,-

7870= exact copy of 6970, but at the new 28nm process, meaning it will reach much higher clock speeds. (1ghz stock) 300,-
7850= 6950, see above, 900mhz stock. 200,-
