MSI RMA experience

Hello,

I recently RMA'ed my MSI Gtx 480 Lightning and received one today, but replacement was defective out of the box.
I received mine super fast because I am only like 20 miles away from MSI rma dept, but was disappointed with their rma service.
I sent my MSI GTX 480 Lightning last week and I received a RMA replacement today with different serial #.
I did noticed that RMA dept. replaced the TIM before they shipped. I tried them with default clock to test the stability and it was very unstable.
My fan would go up to 100% and it would give me close to 90c temperature. My previous gtx 480 lightning would never go above mid 70c with 100% fan.
I set everything to default and played my favorites games and games were chappy like FPS would go up and down randomly. I tried Nvidia driver 285.62 and 290.36 beta, but both would behave same.
I even tried with other bio switch, but samething. I also noticed that new serial # was also manufactured in May 2011 (My previous gtx 480 lightning was also manufactured in May 2011) and they both comes with 701mhz core clock instead of 750mhz core clock. I am hugely disappointed. I doubt RMA dept tested this card before they sent out. Do I need to pay a shipping again for a RMA?
I already emailed them about my situation, but I nervous that I might get a bad replacement again and shipping cost.

No company test's cards they send out for RMA's. You will most likely have to pay for shipping.

If it happens again make them pay for shipping.

This pass summer I bought two different P67 boards and had problems with both. I sent in one because it wouldn't even post. They sent me an e-mail stating that the pins were bent and it would cost me $70 to repair.. I refused stating I would return it to Newegg because I was still within my 30 days. After that board I got another MSi P67. Only to have the same issues... Instead of wait once again for Neweggs 3-4 week refund thing I RMAed it too MSI. Once again MSI gets a hold of me stating the motherboard had damage to one corner and denied my RMA... I talked with them back and forth for 2 weeks before giving up. Needless too say I WILL NEVER BUY AN MSI PRODUCT AGAIN... Oh and my ASUS P8P67 EVO has run perfectly sense day one......

Did you take picture BEFORE shipping? If not then it's you're own fault. ALL company's will try anything to get out of everything and you have to cover you're ass. Asus has done the same thing to me many times but I take a HUGE amount of precautions before shipment and I wind up winning.

Very few company's will pay for shipping. Newegg never does unless you beg them where as TD and NCIX(with VIP account) will give you a pre-paid slip as long as it's not a useless reason like I don't like the color.

I guess I have no choice, but to wait for another replacement and hoping it's not defective again. I never had bad replacement before in my life and I had a lot of RMA replacement before with many companies.

Yea, they probably would not let you visit, but see if they have a way to drop it off?


I RMA'd a motherboard a few months ago and it was pretty painless, appeared to be a brand new board and worked just fine.
