Just bought my new Gaming Laptop !

Thread Starter
Hi there,

So my ThinkPad T61p died last week .. The good news is that I had to buy a new computer
I'm still in college (2 more years before i'm done with dentistry school) so I can't buy a desktop PC just yet. But I must say I'm pretty happy with what I bought yesterday. So here you go :

Asus G53SW-A1 = 1,253.16$ taxes included
Intel Core i7-2630QM
12GB Dual Channel DDR3 1333MHz Memory
nVidia GeForce GTX 460M 1.5GB GDDR5

I also order a Crucial CT128M4SSD2 128 GB m4 SSD to use as my Primary drive on the laptop (cause there's two slots for HDD in this one) & a HDMI - DVI Cable 6 Feet so I can plug it to my 22IN Samsung LCD when I'm home.

All that for a grand total of 1507.30$

What do you think ?

Cool price, hope that laptop does not have the same problem the G73 has.
During gaming sessions they start having a sort of "freezes" which stop sound and everything, like 2 sec's into gaming and 5 sec's frozen.

Sager NP5165 or NP8150 probably would have been a better choice.

NP5165 could of gotten to GTX555 2GB, higher grade i7, 8GB 1600/1866 RAM and the 128GB SSD still for around $1200.
NP8150 be with the same specs but a GTX 560/HD6990 for about the same price.

Overall though the G53 is never bad and the differences in specs between them all is really marginal at best so you didn't do bad in any case. If you popped in with some prebuilt Acer laptop though.... tongue.gif

I thought the new asus g53 would come with a nvidia 560m. But still not bad for the price.

As far as video card goes he made the better choice. The 560m in all g53sx's is gimped by a 128bit bus. The 460m in the G53sw has a 192 bit bus and is the easy winner. That being said i think he paid to much.

Try and find something with a slightly better GPU. I'm typing on my almost one year old G73 with i5, 460m. Paid 1200 CDN last christmas, with the beta drivers this thing is a beast!

This is a nice laptop. Fry's has it for $999 though. The 460m>560m on the new G53s.

I was in the gaming laptop business the last 3 years and I would call your laptop a multimedia computer, not a gaming one. I have a laptop with both a 2630QM and 555m and I wouldn't call it a gaming laptop, can't max out Bad Company 2 at 1920*1080 (regardless of AA) and BC2 is pretty easy to max out.
