Which card would you choose for $250?

Trying to choose a gpu for my buddy and am hung up between a 6950 and 560 ti.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127588
Choosing this one because it's one of the cheapest with 2gb

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500196
Choosing this one because it comes with BF3

Which one of these would you take? Or which other card would you buy for $250 +- $15

He will be running a 2500 non-k to go along with this card. He also got a 620w Seasonic psu, so power shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks all!

Edit: totally forgot to say. He plays at 1920x1080

If he's going to be playing 1920x1080 I would go with the 2GB card.

I'd get an XFX HD 6870 2GB and call it a day for $200 before rebates.

The extra VRAM on the 6950 will come in handy. So go with the 6950 2GB and buy BF3 with some kind of origin discount code.

Sounds like a resounding yes for the 6950.

What if I could convince him to go to $300 for the 560 ti 448 cores?

Or would you still say 6950 is the better buy?

GTX 560 Ti 448 is a bad buy right now IMHO. It's around the price point of a 6970 or GTX 570 while not offering the same level of performance and having a smaller frame buffer than either.

Between $250 and $300 I would probably go with the Sapphite HD 6950 Toxic.

The 2GB VRAM won't really come in handy at 1080P. 1GB suffices at that resolution for pretty much every game. You should only push for a 2GB+ card if multi-GPU setups will be a possibility in the future.

The Sapphire DIRT3 edition HD-6950 @ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102945 when it's in stock, $260.

Only because it has a better chance at UNLOCKING to a HD-6970 than that MSI Twin Frozr II card. To get the better MSI card you'd need the $300 MSI PE/OC TwinFrozrIII edition.

Plus you'd have to FLASH that MSI Twin Frozr II card to attempt it, while the Sapphire card has a DUAL BIOS w/ the 6970 Unlocled shaders in Position 2 so it's a much safer way to attempt it.

And an UNLOCKED and OVERCLOCKED HD-6950 well eat up and poop out 1GB GTX-560ti's all day long. It's a much more intelligent buy for the money. As an example my Sapphire

TOXIC HD-6950 version can almost match stock GTX-580's level of performance at about HALF the cost to buy one (GTX-580 @ $500 vs. My TOXIC was $270 after rebates).

Good luck with whatever Card you buy, to be honest they're ALL good cards and he should be happy with whatever you get. thumb.gif

Good call on the easy-unlock cards.

I've heard some people just have to flip the switch on the Sapphire cards to unlock the shaders!

Keep in mind though that you'll have a hard time finding the DiRT3 edition, as even Newegg has stopped carrying it. But the nice cooler on the MSI should allow you to overclock decently enough to perform well even without the shaders.
