Apogee GTZ leaking

Thread Starter
Just redid my loop and can't seem to stop my Apogee GTZ cpu block from leaking. From what I can tell it's leaking from the threads, although I've used teflon tape around the barb threads, double checked the o-ring, and even swapped out the barb. Nothing I seem to do stops it from leaking. Not a small leak either; it's a consistent trickle. I'm using 7/16 primoflex over 1/2 XSPC barbs.

Any one have any suggestions? I'm getting kind of desperate here.

Have you tried without the teflon tape?

Yup. Teflon tape was first reaction to the leaky threads. It helped but there's still a trickle.

Are all the screws tight on the waterblock assembly itself? I remember mine leaking when one was loose.

I'd add to that and also make sure they aren't too tight and/or stripped a thread on the block.

Checked that too. All are tight without them being over tightened. It's definitely leaking from the threads, I'm just unsure as to what more I can do. I'm thinking maybe silicon sealant, although at this point I'm wondering if I can trust the block anymore. It shouldn't be this much trouble.

make sure you are not smashing the o-ring preventing it from making the seal. are the o-rings new or old and see if the threaded section of your barb fittings are the same length. it is possible one is a bit too long (slipped thru manufacturing) preventing it from making a seal.

One of them I've had for a while, the other one I tried is brand new, shipped a week ago. None of the barbs are more than finger tight. All are the same length, barb and threads.

Seems like the threads could possibly be the cause? Since you seem to have covered all the other possibilities. I would probably just replace it and be safe if I were in your position.

Couldn't solve the problem. Luckily, someone happened to be selling their old EK HF Supreme down the street, so I picked that up and now all's well. I guess no one ever said watercooling was cheap...
