Buying a new console ... need some help from you guys ( performance, games... etc ) to decide if i'll go MS or Sony

Hey all,

So, i'm looking to buy a new console. I've been a fan of Pc gaming but i'm going to give an opportunity to consoles. ( well, mainly because i got a big a$$ plasma screen and it's a joy to play )

So, PS3 and Xbox.

I know that both have their own "restricted" games ( Gears of War, Forza for XBOX ; GT5, MGS for PS3 ; etc ) but that won't be the main factor for my buy.

It's all about how good the consoles are.
I'm reading a lot that PS3 is getting better in terms of graphical performance. But after checking some analysis @ LensOfTruth website, i see that, apart from BF3, XBOX is able to deliver great graphics ( there are some exceptions of course ) in general.

So, in your opinion what's the best console to get @ this point? I was going to wait for the new 720 & PS4 ... but for what i read, only for 2013... :x

Another "problem" i keep reading is how difficult it is to develop a game with PS3 SKU vs XBOX ...

(P.S. I like the BR player bonus on the PS3, but lets not make that count ... i'm just looking for raw performance "analysis", support and best games offer ... )

So, thank you for your support guys smile.gif

Graphically they're not too much different. If you want to play a lot online I'd go for xbox, Live is better than psn.
Basically I think you just gotta decide what exclusive games you prefer....
I have a ps3, but if I had to choose now I'd buy an xbox, although being as new consoles are coming in a few years, I'd hold on until then.
It's all just preference, buy one or the other, you won't get disappointed.

He's got a point. Do you have a group of friends to play with? Stick with them.

Otherwise, I know you said "performance", but I would say look at current and upcoming game selection. Both consoles are solid platforms for what they do. PS3 has the benefit of no monthly fees for online play and Blu-ray. Xbox is a great media extension platform, if you already have lots of music/videos/movies on file.

PS3 if you want games that are made by some of the industries greatest developers and a slew of awesome imports to boot plus a good online experience.

Xbox 360 if you want a really fun and interactive experience( Kinect ) and a great selection of titles plus the best online experience.

When you have the cash just get both. If I had to pick between the two in which case I knew I would get them both, I would get PS3 first, the imports coming out of japan are really good.

I like how this thread is actually doing good and not locked already because of a fanboy war. But back on topic, I agree with the friends thing. Stick with your buddies, if you dont have any for whatever reason just pick the console with the exclusives tht interest you the most. Personally if your into rpgs, id say PS3.

You kind of have to choose the one that has the games you would like to play the most. Also take in mind if you are willing
to pay $50 every year for xbox live and if you would like to have the option to play Blu-rays.

Thank you all for the replies! It's really important to me.

Well, as for friends with XBOX & PS3 ... i have friends with Xbox and PS3.

I can't tell you if i'm going to use the online that much yet, because i need to get a cable or a wireless signal extension hub to where i'm installing the darn thing tongue.gif

That's why i was trying to understand if there's a obvious difference between system performance between both. As for games, it's what i said, i have games that i like in both platforms, so i can't really make up my mind only with the games. The only game that was leading me to buy a PS3 was GT5 and i was less than overwhelmed by it ( too dull ).

So, resuming, can't really go wrong with one or another correct?

I must say that i was thinking about going to the shop, look at both and just follow my gut feelings and take one. But before i did that, i posted this topic just to understand if there was any catch, since i've been reading that the PS3 games are getting better and better, and that made me think about if the PS3 was getting better performance in terms of graphics than the XBOX.

One thing by the way ... i have a G25 logitech wheel ... i know that it can be used with PS3 ... but can it be used with XBOX, anyone one knows?

Thank you again, for your support and for keeping this civilized smile.gif I was afraid that this could go the wrong way with the flaming wars between fan-boys but i'm glad it didn't tongue.gif I know these kind of subjects are very sensible to each user preferences smile.gif

I've only got an Xbox so I can't be thoroughly knowledgeable on both, i'll just say my friends are on xbox, so I have an xbox, and I love the ability to chat to them regardless of which game my friends are on. biggrin.gif
If my friends were on PS3 though, i'd have gotten one of those. The Xbox dashboard got an update yesterday too, it looks nice. smile.gif
