Looking for/to design a logo, some questions/help.

I'm looking to get, or design myself a logo for my Livestreaming/Youtube channels..

The theme is gaming "Mr Havok Gaming" is the name. I have envisioned a cog with some flare, red and black coloring, or blue, and "Mr Havok" text around or in it.

I couldn't pay for one, as I'm broke from buying Christmas gifts. I also know nothing about software like this, but I was wondering if anyone could recommend some decent quality free programs to try and create one myself?

Much appreciated guys. smile.gif

Edit : Reference photo for the cog idea.

A nice free multi-platform photoshop-esque program is The Gimp. I've used it a good deal in the past.

You also might want to check out Aviary, which is a free web-based design suite. Good luck with your project! thumb.gif

I was having fun playing around. I hope that i don't take from your fun and learning experience, but i made this logo using brushes found on deviantart.com

Feel free to use it if you want to.
I have the file with a transparent background (no black) or a PSD (file broken into a bunch of editable pictures)
