Is it safe to buy a hard drive off eBay?

So, I see this hard drive I need to buy on eBay for $50 less than NewEgg. It is brand new, and has a 7 day return to the seller. I could also get the 3 year full coverage warranty for $15. Is it safe? Would it be covered by the mfr. warranty?

Should be ok as long as its new and unopened. As with anything, always check the seller out to be sure they arent scamming you. I rarely if ever buy from someone with 95% feedback or lower as it usually means they could be scamming, but i do read the negative feedback because sometimes buyers are just buttholes.

They have 354 feedback, all 100%. It appears it is a computer store/repair company based in Florida. One more question... Would it be covered by the manufacturer's warranty? Would I need a receipt for that? Or, should I just go ahead and pay $15 for the 3yr squaretrade warranty?

It may depend on the hard drive manufacture weather or not it will have a warranty.

I would get the Square Trade anyways, even if it comes with a Samsung warranty its less hassle.

If it's new, sammy F3's have a 3 year warantee. Ask for the serial # and run warantee statis to be sure. If your have any hesitation about buying this then you should reconsider as gut feelings go a long way. I have had that feeling before buying something on fleabay and sure enough, i was scammed.

How long do you plan to use it? After 3 years a HDD is pretty much worthless...

If the HDD is not for the retail market you are in(e.g. OEM market, overseas), you may not get warranty at all. Anyway return process is likely to be time-consuming and you may have to one way shipping. I won't worry about it too much. From my experience, a returned HDD doesn't last long......
