Yup. Nintendo wouldn't make enough money, because their main market is parents buying for their kids for Christmas and such. However, the controllers do have screens.

Nintendo will NEVER let a console be that expensive, so all of this is just BS (probably fanboy site rolleyes.gif) and all of those saying you won't buy a console that doesn't have bluray/dvd player and all that... who cares!!, i buy consoles because of the games, not because it can play this or that, i have a stand alone bluray/dvd player (way better than any console can provide) i don't need another...

As far as a console goes the specs look good as the current generation of consoles already produce decent looking games. However considering this console will be using ~2009 technology that has been scaled down along with a controller that doesn't really have notable specs in any case, 450 euros is outrageous. The Xbox 360 cost $400 at launch when it had top of the line specs and the PS3 cost $600 with it's new fangled blu-ray drive and similarly high specs. If I had to estimate the price of the Wii U it would be around $300 to $350. Also the missing features like CD, DVD and Blu-ray support kind of take away from the excitement. Still I'm sure the homebrew community can fix that.

Something I always felt the Wii and now the Wii U was missing was a standard-standalone controller like the Classic Controller Pro minus the wii remote you have to plug it in to. Also I don't get why they're dropping Gamecube support if the hardware is fully backwards compatible (this goes to the current generation of Wii's too).

A lot of times I feel like Nintendo needlessly limits the capabilities of their hardware whether it's dropping Gamecube backwards-compatibility or limiting Wii emulation on the Wii U to standard definition only. It's typical Nintendo but still it sucks. I hope the Wii U has decent networking capabilities or else it won't live very long.

Just because you buy a console for games doesn't mean that everyone else does. Having Blu-Ray was the PS3's only saving grace at launch, considering people looking for a Blu-Ray player could pick up a gaming console for only a few hundred dollars more than a stand-alone Blu Ray player.

And I highly doubt that your Blu-Ray player is "way better" than what a PS3 can provide. For a number of years, PS3 was the best blu ray player on the market. It was the only player guaranteed to receive firmware updates, and it still has the fastest loading times on blu rays to this day.

I think Nintendo is dropping the ball big time here. They should make me want to kick my PS3, etc. to the curb. The more someone uses a device to watch movies, listen to music, go on the web, etc., the more likely they are to spend money through a service that you offer, or digital download games, etc.

If I'm only turning my Nintendo on to play a game I bought from the store, but I'm turning my Playstation on for all my other media needs AND gaming, where do you think I'm going to be spending more time?

To have blu-ray reading capabilities Is a plus for consoles because you could store bigger games into one disk.

The Wii U uses a 25GB Proprietary Disc. It will also have expandable storage aswell. So the lack of Blu-Ray won't limit the games.
As far as format playbacks like Blu-Ray and DVD Nintendo don't want to pay licensing fee's etc and jack up the price. They are and always will be a gaming company first that focus's on providing top notch software and new ways to play. Anything outside of playing games on a Nintendo platform is a bonus not a priority to them and I understand why. They are strictly a gaming company.

I'm newb at posting news, tell me if there is something wrong, if this is a re-post then please delete.

I REALLY doubt we will see the WiiU launch at $450 euros. Also it won't be "the same game as ps3/xbox360", the WiiU is going to be roughly 50% faster than a PS3. Not to mention all the Nintendo exclusives.

What's sad is all I really want is a new Gamecube with up to date hardware, wireless Gamecube controllers, and beautiful HD Nintendo first party titles.

I'd gladly pay $499 for that. I think a system like that would kick ass.

Well, that's what the Wii U is really minus the GCN specific controller. Its Wii for those that bought and liked that platform and Wii U for those of us that long for another GCN type platform that's more for us hardcore gamers. It looks promising but rather or not Nintendo will be able to accomplish their goals with it is another thing entirely. It has everything needed to succeed and Nintendo is getting 3rd parties on board like never before but, at the end of the day it's still Nintendo managing the platform and that gets me excited and depresses me at the same time.
