Computer not showing all ram

Thread Starter
Ic recently had this issue. Il try to explain the best i can. I have 12GB of ram installed in my MOBO right now but only 10GB is being seen by windows. I use CPUz to check the slots and it says all of my 6 ram slots are being used and it knows what they are. There all the same ram exept for some reason CPUz shows three of them with an H at the end(3 ram sticks are PC3-10700 and 3 are PC3-10700H). And the H ones are slightly diff timmings but they are as far as i could tell the exact cards. anyway after i rebuilt my pc from being shipped back to my house(came on the plane with me[well under it]) and my desktop only started seeing 4-6GB of ram(changed every now and again). Did memtest and had no issue(however it was testing with dual channel not triple). so i RMAed my MOBO and got this one back. this time it only read 10-12GB and sometimes when booting before post the pc would turn off and reboot(hanging at DRAM TEST?).
I have no idea what else i can do. iv tested each ram stick for 15 min in memtest and all have passed no issue. is there something i could try or something im missing?
also note that every now and again it will see all 12GB but sometimes it only sees 10GB. im going to remove a card at a time and see which may be the culprit.

was able to get it back to 12GB by using my MOBO's MEMOK Button. however this is just right now. it may go back to 10. so any ideas or explanations about the cpuz thing would be awesome. thx

Possibly frequencies are too high for the memory to be stable so it might attempt to run at the safest settings and thus might result in reduced amount of memory. Two other possible causes might be the board being tightened too much against the case or heatsink on more tighter than it should causing physical distortion on the board, including the memory slots.

hmm, thats a good point. i will check however i do not remember over tightening the screws to the board. thanks

What command rate are you running and what tRFC are you running? Also, what is your QPI/DRAM vltage set to?

With 6 modules, I recommend running the following:
Command rate of 2N
tRFC of 100
QPI/DRAM of 1.27v minimum (might already have higher voltage based on your current OC)

qpi is set to auto and dram is 1.52. command rate was 2N and didnt touch trfc. After MEMOK button it seems to be steady. if i run into the issue again i will try these settings. thanks

yeah the MemOK Check is part of the solution. And if the tRFC is on auto, it is probably at 111, but 100 should be fine. I find when running 6 modules vs 3, the tRFC has to be bumped up quite a bit in order for the ram to work. I also have a hard time running 1N with 6 modules.
