Exactly, however the thing with the Opteron series is that, while they may shine on programs like Cinebench, games might not wholly take advantage of the server-architecture, as a result, a 955 would be just as good. Take the Quadro series for example. They're insanely powerful, however games don't perform any more better on then as they would on mainstream cards. These products are more or less marketed separately for a reason.

I am not exactly a gamer and really that is not an issue for me, as long as it CAN play a few games now and then. Who knows it might blow FX line outta the water kinda like it did with the original FX cpu's. Anyways was just seeing if anyone heard anything else about it, there is no reason to speculate on its performance and say that a 955 can perform better than it in "games" when nothing is even known about it. I guess time will tell.

Do you guys think it is going to happen or not? Particularly the Opteron 3280 HE. Thanks for your time and info, I just am ready to upgrade my cpu and don't wanna until I get more clarification on this. And please NO BD bashing thats just really old thanks!

I emailed gigabyte about it and they said that my board was not "optimized" to run Opterons, but they did not say it would not work. Worth a try still, if it does not work then return it. Also, where on earth has anyone seen a AM3+ server board?

Who said I was insulting your intelligence. I was trying to make you think about your statement for a second. There is nothing special about a chip that can overclock well using the FSB. I was just showing that is it common. My chip is at stock multi, and my overclock is purely on the FSB. So please don't think I was insulting you. It was merely to make you think, and it was also a joke.

A 955 has nothing to do with this. These are very specific processors that could turn out to be an interesting oddity and also the fact that I have yet to see an AM3+ server mobo.

I've been searching around myself since the other thread. Best I can come up with is that it is soon to be released, and vendors are making sure to have it available when it is.... ?

Here's hoping it's good, I'll pick one up if it is.

I'll have pricing and availability here soon from a company. Just got off the phone with them.

NOW, since these are on AM3+, do you think someone will drop a dual socket mobo????? smile.gif
