Help picking an ODD!!!

Not sure this is where this should be posted. thinking.gif Plz feel free to move the post or w/e. Anyhow...

Doing my first build and wondering... There's a lot of optical drives out there. Is there really much of a difference between the $13.99 LG on Newegg and the $100 lightscribe ones? (Is lightscxibe in some way useful? Srry--noOb question.) Will I be sorry if i get a cheapass one? Is one brand worth the $$ vs another? TY in advance for the help...redface.gif

Lightscribe is a way to burn physical images to the disc instead of using a marker pen. You need Lightscribe disc as well.

Just pick a LiteOn ODD. Samsung one is good too. Only if you need Bluray should you be looking at $50+ ODD.

So... 1 more nOob question....

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151252

This is a SATA drive, right? I can't imagine they're still making IDE drives, but the other ones all specifically say "SATA" and this one doesn't. Also, the SATA cable will come with my MoBo, i assume? Or do I need to buy one (1st time builder, if you didn't read the OP)

Yes, this Samsung DVD drive is a SATA drive. The drive itself will not come with a SATA cable (see the word OEM? OEM means it only includes the drive only). The motherboard you bought will most likely come with 1 or 2 SATA cable. This Samsung drive can burn dual layer disc.

Yes, that drive is sata. I say go with the Samsung, I have 2 of them installed and don't regret it. Sony and Asus are also good brands for ODD's.

what?? IDE FTW. any ODD drive works. question is a combo ODD, is it better? or is a seperate ODD for blu ray and a dvd writer.
