Any one thinking of trying out Everquest 2 now that it is free to play?

I didn't see any posts on it...all of the sub servers are free to play now, but if your characters aren't human, half elf, or barbarian and a Templar, Wizard, or Berzerker you will have to purchase character packs to let you play them.

Kind of cool for since my main characters are a Templar, Wizard, and Berzerker. I had to buy the Dwarf race pack to get my Templar though...but I had the station cash in my account already from a bonus from an expansion purchase long ago I think...something game me 1000 station credit without me buying anything.

Only thing you are limited to that I can see is that you are shorted two inventory bag slots. everything else seems to be fine.

Not this is not extended...if you had a subscription in the past you can log into your characters...provided they are under level 90.

There are a million and a half free to play (with limits) MMOs out there. I always come to a crossroads in these free to play with limits games, you find yourself shortly coming to the conclusion that you need to pay in order to get any of the good stuff, and if you don't want to pay you may as well quit.

And that is the problem with the F2P model.

I typically refuse to even bother with a F2P game, but I happen to really like EQ2. If this gets people playing it I will be subbed again in no time. However, as of a couple months ago I am pretty sure they could have merged every server into one...maybe two and had things be OK. The game is a complete ghost town.

I might actually sub and then start a free account to box with...maybe a third. A shadowknight with a dirge and a troubadour buffing him would probably be fairly unstoppable. However, I tried it once before and it is just too boring. I can't play a MMO without other players. Something that EQ2 lacks for some reason...never have really figured out why. I think it is the best MMO on the market, but no one wants to even touch it. I guess I am just weird. I should probably just give in and start boxing

The only F2P I ever liked was LOTRO and even then I ended up subscribing. I would probably activate my EQ1 account before I get into another MMO. F2P or otherwise (except maybe GW2...maybe).

Funny thing is that I believe EQ1 is still subscription only because a decent amount of people play it yet.

And yet it is official they are working on a Everquest 3...for some reason I am thinking it will fail as well.

I rather liked LoTRO...but I never tried it after it went free to play. I should really give it another chance. It basically just made me want to play EQ2 the last time I tried it.

EQ2 never really took off...And I agree, the only reason EQ1 is still PTP, is simply the fact there are enough people that still actually pay...

Don't understand why considering what's out there but, to each his own.

I would not play EQ2 FTP for a variety of reasons...Among them is the fact it's just a bad game :/

And you see...I just can't really see the bad parts of it. Well, other than the near complete lack of PvP and then they just tried to tack some on and it really doesn't work that well. However, there are people that play WoW that only do PvE. I can't see why they would chose WoW over EQ2 for PvE.

I think EQ2 has got some great lore in it...alot of the quests are actually entertaining to read the dialog...the group mechanics are amazing as compared to pretty much all other MMOs where you don't really group, but solo together...it has a half hearted attempt at player housing...it has appearance slots so you can wear the good gear and not worry if the combinations look bad...a well organized chat system...a great integrated voice chat...graphics that aren't horrible...classes that all make sense for the most part though I don't know anything about the two new classes just added...a little bit more character customization with the AA point system as compared to other MMOs (pretty much every MMO hold your hand and dictates what skills your character will have these days. Every level 44 fighter has the same skills and stats)...

I honestly can't think of anything bad about it save for many of the classes are not set up to pvp very well...but then again...some classes are not set up to PvE well either if not in a group. I think the group mechanics are the main reason I like the game. In group pvp pretty much every class can do well.

Yep EQ1 is still subscription. I played about 7 years then let me account run out. Started it up again earlier this year and let it run out again last month. Eq3? Are you talking about EverQuest Next?
