OT: I was under the impression we already knew that there was water on Mars, was I wrong?

It's true that water on mars was a commonly held believe with some evidence. The importance of this evidence is that it is much less circumstantial. Finding this vain is almost undeniable proof that there were large bodies of water on mars.

wait, so the riverbeds and the granules are not evidence?

the polar ice caps are mostly CO2 ice, if I'm not mistaken.

So... maybe a dumb question, but what do they suspect happened to all of the water?
Long story short, they say Mars got hit by 15 large asteroids stripping it of its magnetic fields and the water vaporized into space when the planet was hit by all the solar winds without its defenses.
