if so - and i dont believe it to be as such - it would be a deficiency of that card design - not a deficiency of cpu. with a faulty design or buggy software you can bring down a cluster - leave aside a cpu.

If you go much further than that you end up wasting money and defeating the whole purpose of going with AMD in the first place.
The FX line of processors is not a major step up until we see games with more threads. It is definitely not ideal for current games, with a possible exception being BF3. They will do what you ask, just don't expect them to be faster in current unoptimized games and programs.
I'm not trying to sell Intel here, AMD is just way behind in price / performance for gaming on CPU's at the high end at the moment. If you do certain tasks on your computer its a different story, but gaming is not one of those tasks.

Can't agree at all. You make it sound like an AMD cpu will make games unplayable. I don't know how the 4100 is, but my 1090t never had any problems. Neither does my 8120.. Fact is most games are gpu bound. So the processor is irrelevant, unless you play at extremely low resolutions. But even then, the game won't be unplayable. For the few games that are cpu bound, my AMD cpus have had no trouble. As far as games in general, I highly doubt I would be able to tell if I was gaming on my old i7 920, 1090t, or my current 8120.

BTW my OC was 24/7 stable. Also In Shift 2 Unleashed In Spa at night with 16 cars the framerate would drop to 30FPS same story GPU usage was about 40% now with this 2500K GPU usage never drops below 99% and the framerates I'm getting are above 80FPS always.

i have just overclocked my phenom 965 be by 600 mhz, and then again run unigine heaven benchmark with dx9 under windows 7 with 5040x eyefinity resolution.

there hasnt been ONE point difference in fps. its as if that 600 mhz did not exist.

so, if my 6950 which runs as a 6970 with shaders unlocked and 910 mhz (actually 30 mhz higher than 6970 clocks) is not getting bottlenecked by phenom ii 965 in 5040x1050 resolution, there is no way in hell that your 955 was bottlenecking your gpu with a single monitor.

you have a different problem in your rig.

Honestly I don't know why anyone would listen to what he has to say after he says things like this.

Heaven is a gpu benchmark, with almost no cpu load.

Then to make it even more gpu bound he fires up a single 6970 at 5040x.

You have a problem with your understanding of how computers work.

Edit: Nobody is saying a AMD based system with quad SLI 580s at 1000Mhz is going to provide unplayable frames, (only in cpu intensive games will it perform poorly) what we're saying is an AMD system with quad SLI 580s could have obtained the same experience saving $1500 while just getting one gpu because the cpu isn't allowing the other three to do anything.

You don't buy a $300 shifter for a ford pinto, you balance your car just like you would a computer system. Putting $600+ in gpus on a $120 cpu isn't the smart thing to do. It's $120 because it performs like a $120 cpu.

Edit Again: You wouldn't go out and buy a $300+ Sata III ssd for a system with only Sata I support would you? No, because the platform isn't capable of using all the power/speed you have with the modern SSD. It's the same thing with video cards and processors. Adding $600+ in gpus on a low end, cheap system would cause the same loss in performance, and thus wasted money as the SSD example would.

yeah. we should run a cpu intensive gpu benchmark to benchmark gpus to ............ make intel processors come out better ?

unigine heaven is one of the heaviest/taxing benchmarks that is out there.

however, more importantly :

are you aware that the person to whom i responded to, is saying that phenom 965 be bottlenecked a SINGLE GPU on his computer ?

well actually there is a sata 2 ssd in my sata 3 capable mainboard right now. however that is beyond the point - the guy we have responded to says his phenom bottlenecked A SINGLE GPU Setup. NOT xfire/sli.

i dont know why anyone would respond to you after you repeatedly show that you dont even read posts you are responding to. it takes a little time to do it.

My 1090T bottlenecked my gtx 470, single smile.gif

Do you run a rendering test to check the performance of your gpu? No? So why would you run a gpu test with no cpu demand to check the cpu performance?

Sata 2 SSD on a Sata 3 controller is a totally different situation than a Sata 3 SSD on Sata 1....

Depends totally on the game.

My i5-2500k bottlenecks below 60 fps in several games too, it's just providing quite a bit more fps than Phenom II does in those situations.

If you're playing Metro 2033 you could probably get away with a lot of gpu power on Phenom II, if you're playing WoW you'd bottleneck with a single gtx 460.

my mobo cost almost double the ssd. with that logic, i had had bought a sata 3 capable mobo for nothing.
