Alternative for Gentle Typhoon AP 14/15 fans? - Page 3

i was also in the group buy and had to move on. =)

on recommendation from Juggalo, the WC mod, i picked up 6 XSPC Xinrullian 1650 fans. they perform great, very similar to GTs, and are much cheaper.

at koolertek for $7,

http://www.koolertek.com/computer-parts/pc/XSPC-Xinruilian-120mm-1650-RPM-Fan-184p1388.htm

or on amazon for $13.

Omg OP, check this out - this guy on ebay had 8 of them :

The only real downside is it's a sleeve bearing fan, but it should still last a while even in a horizontal mount. If you want a step up, go for the Panaflo M1BX; it runs at 2100RPM, and Panaflos by nature undervolt well and sound very good. If you can find one, also try out the San Ace 9G1212M1011; it's a 1950RPM fan, and San Aces are always awesome. tongue.gif If you're getting a fan controller, then I'll more firmly recommend either the Panaflo U1BX (2700RPM) or the San Ace 9G1212H1011 (2600RPM), I have and love both of them and have actually used them on my Thor's Hammer heatsink. I did a small writeup comparing the two, you'll find it in my sig under the San Ace review link.

Ultra Kaze's never undervolted well for me. All of my UKs clicked at 5v.

Shipping is pretty flat. You should order as much stuff as you can to save on shipping. Cost me around $8 for 2 day shipping and that was for a whole bunch of fans and a controller.

What controller would you recommend?

Seems that as long as one orders at least $75 that shipping is reasonable by either $6 or $8. However, if you don't there is a $10 fee. Also, I seem to recall one of the other supplies giving free shipping at $50, but I forget who and I think their fans costs $16+.
I ordered a Nanoxia FCX bracket through them. It's a pretty cool little thing. I don't really have a need for individually controllable fans at the moment. The awesome thing about GTs is that they take so little current you could daisy chain like ten of them on a single channel.

I will def. check those out. Now I will just have to see what kind of fan controllers are good. Honestly, it would be my first fan controller beyond what some cases come with so I just want to buy quality that isn't uber flashy.... something that would go well with a Lian Li or Corsair 650D. Any thoughts or recommendations? Thanks again!

RoddimusPrime - I had 3 Scythe S-Flex E's on a 360 rad. Worked well and were pretty quiet - especially when vertically mounted.
Which brings up a weird thing I found when testing fans for my current build - some fans are much quieter when vertical than horizontal.
CM sickleflows the YL's, Xigmatek, S-Flex, etc were all quieter vertically.

When reading reviews that is one piece of data I would accept.

for fan controllers I have used the Zalman fan mates and 7w inline resistors - happy with both. The 7w inlines are very easy to manage and cut fan rpm in half. Just make sure the fan won't behave like the KAze's or CM Sickleflows (clicking noise if not at full speed).

Good luck.

If you have the 3000RPM model then that's a somewhat common issue. I've never heard of anyone with the 2000RPM model have that problem, though.

Definitely a Lamptron of some kind; the FC-5v2 if you like a screen, or the FC-8 if you don't. You can also get the Lamptron Touch if you want a touch-screen. If these are too expensive then a normal Sunbeam Rheobus will do the job nicely.

my sunbeam rheosmart 6 does a great job, and allows for pwm control of all fans.
