Possible dead motherboard? - Page 2

RMA the sucker. MSI should give you one of their "better" 990FX boards . if you dont like that, sell it on craigslist or something, and get a nice board like a 990fxa-ud3 from gigabyte. The board has a nice power phase, awesome colour scheme, and actually has DECENT vrms. Spiderm0nkey has used it in her "Project Viper" build. oh the irony. the previous thread is "And here is why I absolutely HATE MSI..."tongue.gif

That indicates a VRM failure. It's not your fault, MSI just plain sucks. All they do is charge the user a nice little bundle but crap out on maintaining quality. Lazy bums.
Also, have you been keeping an OC on the processor. Nothing more you can do with that board mate. Best is to buy a new board or RMA the one you have (i prefer the former since i wouldn't want another MSI piece of junk to plague my system anymore biggrin.gif).
Here's a list of confirmed VRM failures (no points for guessing which company has the highest biggrin.gif) - http://www.overclock.net/t/943109/about-vrms-mosfets-motherboard-safety-with-125w-tdp-processors

That's the 2nd response i've gotten to the VRM's being fried. Im beginning to shop for alternate boards right now. What would you suggest for a replacement?!
And i have never overclocked the CPU, first time trying that autoclock on the AMD overdrive app and poof, gone. frown.gif
Thanks for the input everyone!

$60-$90 roughly. I'm trying to maintain my bills, so this is going to put a little behind.

The computer does turn on though whenever i disconnect the 4 pin cpu power.

Unmistakably a VRM failure.  Common on this board, but not usually on the Phenom II x4 as much as on the Phenom II x6.  What cooler/clocks?

I'm not entirely sure what the individual clocks where on the CPU, i know that i had been running everything stock, and had not done any clock adjustments.

Sound like a mobo failure, but have you tried another psu?(just for the hell of it)

I would recommend a AsRock, Asus or Gigabyte board, all have good quality and reliability.

EDIT: what is you're system specs?

Stock speed!?  Stock cooler too I presume?
This would make this the third incident as of recently involving an MSI board VRM failure and a stock speed processor or otherwise a processor well within the rated TDP.....

ya, i didnt make any tweaks to any of that. and now it fails. What would be a good replacement for the 790FX board? in the 70-100 price range
