Buying 27" Monitor! Give me some help :)

Thread Starter
Upgrading from a BenQ 21.5" LCD Monitor to a 27" Monitor. I want to get some information and advice on what I should choose to buy.

Just wondering:

1) Will there be an immediate difference between 21.5" to 27" (other then size increase)?

2) Best resolution for 27"?

3) Is 27" a good point of upgrade or is it really worth going higher?

4) Is 120HZ anything other then a 3D gimmick (I dislike 3D)?

5) Any new monitor technology I should be weary about?

Going to be buying my monitor from either Umart.com.au/, Amazon.com or Ebay.com (most likely umart).

What would be the best monitor to buy within the $300 - $400 mark? I am promintely looking at LED screen but I have heard of TN/IPS screen differences but have no clue. I love BenQ but ASUS and Samsung are also favourites of mine.

Any help on what monitor to choose would be awesome. I am just looking for a monitor that will be awesome at 27".

Cheers!

I don't really want a 3D monitor. Firstly dont like 3D, secondly dont have the card to back it up and thirdly dislike it contracts from overall image quality.

Looking for a standard 27" screen.

Asus VK278Q 27 Wide Led Black

LG E2750V-PN 27" LED 5ms

2560×1440 would be the highest and, in my opinion, the best resolution for a 27" monitor. Though, I'm not sure your card could handle it; not enough VRAM.

You could try this Hanns-G model; it has a 1920×1200 resolution, which is I think still in the realm of where your VRAM could work.

why is going over 1920x1080 resolution at 27" really worth it?

Over 24" in my opinion with 1080p is not a good idea. Even with AA you'll still get jaggies and it won't look as clear/crisp. If you sit farther back from your computer (like as far back as you would if you were watching TV), then go for it. For a monitor, however, I wouldn't recommend it. 1200p on an IPS monitor (not like the one I showed you) at 24" would DEFINITELY still be an upgrade, though. MOAR RESOLUTION AND PIXELS, and the IPS screens are FANTASTIC.

Hope I helped! thumb.gif

I don't recommend stepping out of 1080p territory with that graphics card.

You could get a big 27 inch with 1080p, or you could get into a quality 24/27 inch like the Dell u2412m/u2711 (IPS Screens) or the HP ZR24w (have 3, absolutely love them).

It depends on if you're looking for size, or quality, or a mix of both, really.
