XFX 6990 MICRO STUTTERING IN BATTLEFIELD 3 WITHOUT V-SYNC - Page 8

To OP:

Are you running a single monitor? I had this issue where the FPS was real high and it felt like crap too. Had something to do with me running three monitors, which were connected to 6990 and my main monitor being recognized as #3 by windows. I had to unplug 2 and only let the main one plugged in (so it would be recognized as #1) to play. However, I've solved this by setting up my 6970 as the "main" card, so now all my monitors are connected to that instead of 6990 and it runs very smooth at any fps. This would only happen with VSYNC ON though, you seem to be saying that with VSYNC it runs fine, plus you only have 1 monitor looks like.

I'm not sure what to suggest. Complete reinstall of the system could help, I suppose.

Also, try the leaked 11.12 drivers (8.930), in those you can tweak your Crossfire settings for any game from inside of the CCC. I've enabled/tweaked profiles for some games and got 10-20% fps boost (BF3 was one of them).

I know it sucks when things don't work well. I've spent an entire week debugging my tri-monitor system and it drove me nuts but I'm finally lag-free and can focus on the gaming smile.gif Hope you can say the same soon.

However, for my next build I wont go higher than 2 cards, most likely will just stick with 1 even. Crossfire/SLI is just a huge hassle.

P.S. another drastic suggestion is to get a 120Hz monitor. Then your vsync will only clip you to 120fps, which will feel just perfect. That's what my main monitor is and it's a big improvement from a 60hz monitor for sure, especially for BF3.

I also read somewhere that 6990's in particular in crossfire have major problems after the latest BF3 patch, and if you turn one off it performs much better.

I just set up my 6990 crossfire config last night and got dismal performance in BF3 using 11.11 w/ no CAP....2560x1600 ultra, HBAO 4xMSAA...I was getting around 30-40fps with ridiculous stuttering.

Then I installed CAP3 and saw a HUGE increase in performance. With the same settings I get 80-120 fps.

Iam sorry to hear about ur experiences and I agree that with the money spend u should expect some decent gaming, atleast not to worry about any stutter. I had an radeon 4870x2, it was really good at high frames but when it drops from 80 to 40 I noticed an annoying stutter/lag. Also what ur telling about those micro stutter I had it when playing Gta4, everywhere I was in the map I had micro-stutter and that with an core i7 920 6 gb overclocked or not I always had it on Gta4. So I changed drivers, did everything I could but nothing helped, so I requested an RMA from ATI and guess what, they told me that they cannot help and that it is my problem, well in other words if u understand. Funny thing is after I got that reply I immediatly sold my GPU second hand and went for nvidia. I bought 2x Gtx 480 and I dont regret that I made this change because any game I thorw at it I dont have any annoying lag/ stutter nor do I notice a small stutter when my frames drop from 60 to 30, ofcourse the maximum frames are less higher with nvidia but I dont experience any annoying stutter.

Ye its better not to sell it for less than u bought it for. But come to think of it, u only got it for a couple of days so isnt it possible to exchange it at the shop u bought it from? U could try to say that ur not happy with the product u bought because it doesnt work or bla bla bla.. and maybe u can change it to another upgrade/downgrade which depends on ur choice. I did that once when I bought an geforce 5500xt. It had such a bad performance that I changed it back the next week for a geforce 6800.

Dual 480s is a totally different league and timeframe from 4870x2.\

OP, reinstall your OS. Period.
