From nVidia to ATi

Thread Starter
So monday im getting my HD 6850 2GB and I wanted to ask if there is any risk if I mess up with the driver uninstallation which is:

Download DriversSweeper
Download ATi Drivers
Disconnect from internet
Uninstall nVidia display drivers
Reboot into safe mode
Run DriverSweeper and clean everything
Put the new card in and istall the ATi drivers.

And if there is easier method.

Thank you.

I would not recommend using Driver Sweeper especially you are on AMD platform but some find it more useful to use Driver Sweeper. I personally wouldn't use it.

Simply uninstall Forceware from Control Panel with the Nvidia card in the system. Shutdown, put 6850 in and download and install latest Catalyst WHQL 11.11 should be more than enough.

i agree, i don't think driver sweeper is necessary. My method is quite similar to the above post. Just uninstall any Nvidia Software/drivers you have, and delete anything nvidia in program files just to make sure. Then reboot with the new card in and install catalyst. Simple smile.gif

yea dont use driver sweeper. it removes every ati/amd driver and that includes amd sata drivers. dont get surprised if your new ssd which was connected from a sata 2/3 port is not working after you use driversweeper - since the sata driver is removed system will not boot as long as the bios is still in sata2/3 mode. you will need to go ide mode to boot the system and then reinstall amd or any other sata drivers.

you can use driver sweeper to remove nvidia drivers - if your motherboard chipset is not nvidia.

No, I will just do it the easier way because I have to move my HDD, hide some cables etc etc... eh, small cases.
