Asus p8p67 pro sli, card in last slot work at 8x?

Hi,
I have a sli gtx570 using a Asus p8p67 pro motherboard, the board has 3 pci-e gfx slots with the end one being 4x.

http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8P67_PRO/
Quote:
2 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (single at x16 or dual at x8/x8 mode)
1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 * [Black] (max. at x4 mode, compatible with PCIe x1 and x4 devices)
2
2 x PCI
*The PCIe x16_3 slot shares bandwidth with PCIe x1_1 slot, PCIe x1_2 slot, USB3_34 and ESATA12. The PCIe x16_3 runs at x1 mode by default for system resource optimization.(PCIe x1_2 will be disabled.)

What i would like to know please is can i have card 1 in slot 1 and card 2 in slot 3 and will i have 8x8?
I can't test this as my psu is in the way but i would like to get a full tower case and if the cards work in 1 and 3 then i will upgrade my case but if not there's not much piont really in upgrading as cards will still be sandwiched together.

The only pci-e card i have is in a 1x slot and its a soundcard.
Thanks for your time smile.gif

No.

The top (blue) slot is either x16 or x8 (when the middle slot is also at x8).

The middle (grey) slot is either x0 or x8.

The bottom (black) slot is x4 max.  It can even drop down to x1.

So, it is better to use the blue and grey slots for your GTX570 SLI.

P8P67 Pro has one empty slot space between the two GTX570s in SLI.  So, it is fairly good, especially I think the KFA2 uses traditional cooling design (ie front-centrifugal-fan-intake-and-rear-exhaust).

Perhaps you can improve on the case air flow to bring down the temperature difference between the top and bottom cards.

If you wish, start a thread in the cooling forum.  I can give some ideas but it is getting late here and I am ready to sleep.  But I will be back.

Lol 10/15c temp difference wink.gif
My kfa2 gtx570's blow the hot air straight out the back of them so it spews hot air straight into my oncoming intake fans, just not happy with the setup, nothing really wrong with it as it is it's just i feel i can do more if i'm going to keep the case, it's half butchered anyway and i needed a new side window.

Will do.
I have just ordered 2 new sheets of perspex for the side and will have to mount fanes outside the case as the nh-d14 takes up serious room.
Will post the mod in the cooling when the bits come ect.

Just a head start for your side panel mod:-

I suggest having an intake fan (green square in pic) installed right next to the intake fans of the KFA2 GTX570.  This fan is particularly beneficial to the top card as the fan will push more fresh air into the gap in between the two cards.

Temps in sli are now around 5c give or take and overall temps are lower, cpu is lower, lol it's all cool!

Thanks for the tip dude but the storm scout is in the cupboard awaiting a sale on it.
