Noctua NH-14D = Zalman 9700?

Thread Starter
I just got a noctua NH-14D, and I am getting the same temps with my old zalman 9700 41c idle and 70 stressed. CPU is E8400 at 3.8ghz. I thought It would be 31c idle 60stressed. Does this sound right? Maybe my sensor is broke? Is their a way I can test it? I have tried real temp, core temp and speed fan. Real temp and core temp read the same 41c idle but speed fan reads a 46c idle. What other reliable temp programs are their? I would just use my bios but from what I have heard E8400 does not read right in bios.

the NH-D14 should be cooler than the 9700 by at least a few degrees. I would reseat your heatsink, and reapply thermal paste, making sure you cover all the processor with a very thin film of it.

What are your ambient temps and is there good airflow in your case? Also maybe you didn't mount hard enough or put either too much or too little thermal paste.
