This has happened to me in the past as well. Plug your primary display into a second DVI port if available, the fact that you are using a VGA-DVI connector should be irrelevant. By anychance have you noticed any of the error lights on your motherboard lighting up when you turn on the computer? See if you can get a GPU from a friend of yours to slap in there for testing purposes.

Had something similar, last week no beeps no video, nothing, but everything would light up and fans would run...turns out I just needed to reseat my CPU...kinda weird cuz I thought I would get beeps even with out a cpu...

moral of the story: try reseating your cpu.

Right, i'm getting somewhere.

I removed the video card, adjusted the speaker and.... well, the speaker for the motherboard worked biggrin.gif

I removed the RAM sticks and the motherboard beeps, so that means that the motherboard is working fine. However, after re-installing the video card back into the system and booting it back up, there were no post beeps and again, there was no signal to the monitor. However, when i removed the GPU again and booted, there were 5 short beeps.

After looking up the beeps in the AMI bios beep list, it turns out that this means "Process Failure".

Does anyone know what this means, does it have something to do with the CPU being seated wrong (which it hopefully isn't xD) or is it something entirely different.

Ok, looking on the AMI website, 5 beeps means that the processor has failed. Maybe i do need to re-seat it, cant do that until i get some thermal paste though mad.gif

Hopefully, it will be problem sorted.

I read up that a "damaged expansion card, the CPU, or the motherboard" ( http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/tp/ami-beep-codes.htm ) could be causing the problem. So I would presume you have a damaged video card. If its fine without it inserted.

Ok, so this means i'll have to get a new GPU? Or is it a case of re-seating the processor?

The PC won't POST when the GPU is installed, however, when the GPU is taken out and i boot the PC back up, it will let out 5 short beeps, which relates to what you said.

Could it be the GPU, because when it was delivered, it was thrown over my back wall, which could mean it was broken?

I can't test to see wether it is the GPU though, as the MoBo doesn't have any intergrated video and i don't have another spare GPU.

Oh so you get the five beeps without the video card? In that case I would reseat the processor and try again. Its also possible that you have a broken video card aswell as another issue (If you do try to reseat it I would check none of the pins on the mobo are bent or damaged.)

Good Luck with finding the problem

Thanks for the help, but i'm probably going to take this down to the shop tomorrow , just to get a second opinion on this. They are better prepared with spare video cards etc.

Hopefully i can get this up and running soon!

I think he used the pre applied thermal compound on the stock heatsink.
