This is just an excellent Idea... thumb.gif You have a second hole cut there Rognin??? Fan going there or is that just for back pressure to exhaust???

There's two holes. Was just passing by OCN before going to bed. I've installed the fans but my batteries are out on the cam. redface.gif

Tried a makeshift cover for the box (will be using blue foamy type thingy) to see air flow across the rad. Wasn't bad but I couldn't seal it properly, and I'm sure there'll be a lot more air through the rad when it's properly done.

Also, the gasket mold I made was a waste. So I just applied the silicone directly to the frame and let it sit 24 hours then installed into the box.

Pump "should" be here on the 25th. which means I only have the rad to cut and flush then get the barbs in.

SO I've cut the caps off the rad. And I've got the fittings to reduce from 1" to 1/2".

450

Gonna have to knock them in a bit with a hammer, but that's just a good thing. I would like to know opinions on what type of medium (glue/silicone/plumbers tape/apoxy) I should use to make sure the fittings stay in when I get the pump running (this might go up into the 40c this summer).

I was thinking some type of silicone to kinda secure it in place inside, while also water sealing it. Hell, I won't need this for anything else anyhow.

What would you use?

Fans installed. I stripped one screw while putting them in, so I'll have to use the trusty dremel if ever I need to take the fans out.

Toughest Glue in the world sir... We use it on all hydraulic cylinder PVC casing's that go around the casing of a jack for Hydraulic Elevators... thumb.gif Great Stuff.. This will keep it sealed & under pressure!!!!

Hey Rognin.. this is just awesome... great job man! thumb.gif

So you have omitted the plate hx from the loop now correct? I'm wondering if you could add a small mixing tank(1-2 gal approx 4-8L) to buffer temps in the winter. Basically run the rad fans, and maybe the pump, off a t-stat to maintain a preset temp. Then the second pump will provide a constant flow to cool the TEC's. The advantage of course would be much lower power consumption throughout the colder months. Anyways.. just throwing ideas out there for you.

Some suggestions: biggrin.gif

1. Seal the wood on the inside to help prevent damage from the elements. Maybe run some small beads of silicon along all those edges to keep water out. Mount box with slight angle to allow any water to drain out and not collect.

2. Rotate fans 90-180 degrees to avoid water dripping on the electrical connections.

3. Fuse the main power plug near the source.

4. If you're concerned about small critters getting in then maybe add a louvered grill or fine chicken wire(hex mesh) to the boxes air inlet. Some sort of reusable filter would be nice too.

5. You can use a SCR type ceiling fan controller for the fans. Those are cheap.. like $10-$14 at Home Depot. Be careful not to set them too low or the fans will have trouble spooling up.

6. My recommendation for the barb ftgs is 4min JB weld. I've personally tested this below 0F temps. For a good bond you'll have to sand off that oxidation on the copper and scuff up the pvc fittings. If it's too late then maybe put a slit section of hose over the silicon and add a hose clamp on each side to keep it from popping out. You could also probably just wrap it up real good with gorilla or electrical tape.

7. De-Icer windshield washer fluid has excellent flow down to -30c or so. Just something to keep in mind if the fluid you're using gets too viscous for the pump.

8. Depending on the location of the box... you may need to add something to block the cold wind, rain/snow from entering the exhaust side of the rad. A louvered grill might do the job. Home Depot has those.

9. That's all for now. redface.gif

Keep it coming! specool.gif

Hey Drew!

1. Will do, good plan.
2. Ack, I'll just seal them up also. As I stated I stripped one of the screws, so more silicone. I'll use zipseal so I can take it apart easily in the future.
3. Nah, I have no need to waste two connectors that work with a variety of other different 120vac fans. (same connectors are Mechatronics)
4. 4. With the fan grills no small critters (I don't mind bugs) will get in. I was also more worried about birds getting into the fan blades and breaking everything. I also don't want to restrict air flow too much as the rad is a thick mofo. Hence why the box is open also, I want to be able to take it apart later down the road for cleaning and maintenence.
5. Yeah the one I have resembles that. And these 120vac fans work on frequency, I noticed that the mechatronics had more variation than these fantec. But again, there are no hardware store here... =P
6. Too late... biggrin.gif
7. Alcohol will kill the pump, leanred that from Cl3p2o. That's why I used Glycol. And I'm not too worried about heat anymore as I know that my TEC chillers at 24v will bring up the delta on my rad by 46c. Which means at full load at -20 I will have about 20c water. Should work fin in the most demanding conditions. What's dangerous is when the puter is running at idle... But I'll get around that one soon enough. =P
8. This is for summer only, but I though of adding about 3 small holes with a drill to the extremity so that excess water could be drained if it gets in.

Wednesday I should get the pump... Can't wait!
