That's a hack actually. I've said this in the BattleField 3 Official thread before that it's client sided registration. It's blatantly obvious its client sided too, because of how poorly they did it.

The massively improved hit registration in BF3 is one of the reasons I love it and why I didn't like BC2. It works like you'd expect it to 99% of the time, and I'm not sure any of your videos actually prove anything. In the first one, it's super slow motion and it took the bullet a little while to hit the target. How do you think server-side hit detection improve this situation? The second one is a hack. The third one - there's something fishy going on. Why would you blame it on client side hit detection? His client clearly sees the guy hitting the target, so it would report hits to the server. Something else is going wrong there - some sort of invisible wall or as someone said up thread someone incorrectly identified as an enemy. Why would server side hit detection improve this?

Server side hit detection makes it harder for your accurate shots to actually register as hits and is frustrating as hell. You have to start guessing how the server will interpret your lag when you fire, and not just shooting at the targets. It's bad. Client side is a massive improvement.
