PSU Suggestions

Thread Starter
O.K. It seems as though I have been looking at every psu review in the world for the last week or so. However, after looking at many reviews across the internet... there does not seem to be a psu that does not have its problems. Considering it is one of the most or most important components. I would like to get suggestions on which psu is stable, efficient (spell), and reliable.

I keep reading reviews of high end powersupplies killing mobos and chips

Please help

looking for psu with around 600watts and solid 12v rails. the 12v rails should have the amps to run high end gfx cards of today and future. 200$ and under.

I just want a good one. Thanks.

The OCZ GameXStream should be the first choice for any PC enthusiast or gamer that requires a serious power supply to run their system. With uncompromising quality, an excellent warranty, and over-the-top features, there is no way you can go wrong with this power supply.

The best PSUs around today would be the OCZ GameXStream 700W, the Seasonic S12 500W/600W and anything by PC Power and Cooling. Fortron Source make good PSUs with their Epsilon line, but I don't like the +12V arrangement personally.

Is 18 amps on the 12v rails going to be enough.
Some threads have said that you should get a psu with at least 20 amps?

what is the amp requirement on the most taxing gfx cards?

For a modern 600W PSU you should be looking at 18A on just one +12V rail. 18A total is extremely weak. 30A or more in total is a neccesity for single high end graphics cards like a 7 series nVidia or an X1800/X1900 ATi.

you do realize that the ocz gamextrems are rebranded fsp epsilons? the only difference is the cooling system

I'd go with either a Seasonic S12-600 or one of the PC Power & Cooling silencer 610 or 750

Hiper Type-R 580W... save yourself $100.

Or a GameXStream 700W... those are your best bets.

PC Power and Cooling are the very best on the market, if you want the best and are willing to spend check em out. Next in line would be IMO FSP/ Fortron Source they make excelent PSU of all different rating from low requirement to high end, high requirement rigs just search down one that fits your needs.
