The AX has a better(not quieter) fan and it's fully modular.. electrical performance wise they're more or less on par.. so get the cheaper one smile.gif

is it highly recommended to have a 80 plus gold psu? the price is well related to the overall quality?

80 Plus Gold is not a certification of quality. It only guarantees that the PSU can operate at predetermined efficiency levels at predetermined loads. In effect, you have to pay a lot more for 80 Plus Gold PSUs than for "lower-rated" PSUs on the 80 Plus scale, for no discernible benefit other than efficiency. The ROI is very poor because the minute difference in efficiency between an 80 Plus Bronze unit and an 80 Plus Gold unit takes a long time to pay for itself based on how much you're saving on your utility bill with an 80 Plus Gold unit. So unless efficiency is a priority because you'll be running the PSU at a high load 24/7, I suggest you look at efficiency last and decide based on other features.

The OCZ ZX units are good. For $30 less, it's a good deal.

There's not really a discernible difference. If the OCZ ZX 1250W is $197 over the Corsair AX850 at $186, it's a much better deal than the Corsair, but it's also not worth it if you have no need for that much wattage. The 850W OCZ ZX is also a better deal than the AX850. The performance is not quite as good, but it's purely technical and won't make a difference in your everyday usage.
