Psu Help. How much I need?

Hello there my Computer consultants. So my question is How much power am I going to need for My sig rig. I just ordered the Asus Maximus III Formula and the 2nd 6870 for Xfire, and I do not think that my 630watt Raidmax Psu is going to handle the 2nd 6870. Is there a way to chckhow much power I am actually using currently? How much do you reccomend. I'm thinking a 750. Please do not link a psu calculator, I never find those to be too reliable. They do give a general idea though. Thank you! thumb.gif in advance for anyone who can shed some light on the subject smile.gif

Your system with a second 6870 will max around 500W, sadly your PSU is trash.. it's a severely overrated PPFC Andyson unit which can't safely output 500W.. so you'll need a new one, any solid 600W unit will be plenty, just make sure it is indeed able to deliver according to its rating.. no more Raidmax trash wink.gif

a quality 700 would be enough, a 750 would give you extra headroom for other stuff i suppose.

Is there a way to chckhow much power I am actually using currently?

IIRC there was a program for that, but ccannot recall atm =[

630w is enough.

630w on a RAIDMAX isnt!

I'd browse 600w-700w PSU's on the OCN recommended PSU list if I was you.

Yeah The plan is to pickup a Corsair HX 750. Would a Corsair Hx 650 really get the job done? I like the idea of having some head room if I wanted to upgrade and take my psu with me to the new build.

Something around 600w would be plenty. However, I don't have any experience with Raidmax PSU's so I don't know if you should replace it.

Easily, but you can do better at that price point.. what is your budget and where are you buying from(shop/s)?

To give you an example a 750w quality PSU can run a 2600k @ 4.8ghz & 2 massively OC'd GTX 580 LE's.

The i5 760 isn't the most efficient CPU ever, but later generations of CPU's & the next generation of GPU's are suppose to be even better at power consumption. The top ones will likely use more than a 6870 though, Those are fantastic at watt for performance cards.

IF it was me, I'd buy any of the following. Honestly I'd be more than happy to throw a dart at the selection and take whatever it landed on here regardless of 650w or 750w.

XFX Core Edition 650w $96 Shipped. $66 after MIR.
Rosewill HIVE series 650w $96 Shipped.
Rosewill HIVE series 750w $106 Shipped.
XFX PRO750W XXX Edition $136 Shipped. $106 after MIR.
Rosewill CAPSTONE 650w $100.
Corsair HX750 modular/silver $140. $120 after MIR
XFX PRO 750w semi-mod $136 Shipped. $106 after MIR.
