I hate value RAM

Thread Starter
Value RAM is the worst RAM ever.

Sure, it stores temporary data which is what it's supposed to do, but it SUCKS for overclocking.

I tried getting mine to run at a 4:3 ratio with CPU FSB at 120, not exactly sure on the number this would be for RAM, but it crapped out on me! Just restarted randomly, so now I have it running at 1:1 120mhz. I've heard that 1:1 is the best possible outcome you can get but I still feel a bit cheesed off at my RAM.

Seems yuo also have a mixture of sizes ... or are those three 256MB sticks? If it's one 512MB and one 256MB stick, try removing the 256MB stick. Those sticks likely have different default timings, creating havoc.

Also, it's never a good idea to make the RAM run faster than the CPU. There is simply no reason to do so. If that 4:3 ratio you mentioned is RAM:CPU, then you had the RAM running at 160MHz, which it should easily take (you're not even overclocking the RAM yet, since stock is 166MHz.) I suspect havoc with timings due to different sized sticks.

Value does not OC in almost any case. Value boards, ram, PSU... Don't buy "value" anything. It's value is, ironically, low.

I hate Value ram too. I have 2x256mb Rosewill Value PC3200 and my old Micron 2x256mb PC2700 pwns it (tighter timings, higher mhz, etc).

value ram is supposed to suck. What'd you expect?

Value RAM aint that bad. You just have to buy a good brand. If you put an extra .2v through the corsair stuff you can usually hit 235mhz at stock timings.

If you're lucky... Some Value RAM was even made of BH-5 IC's. Most aren't any good. Namely Elpida chips. :turd:

Well my mobo has no options for changing voltage at all so I can't do anything. Highest OC I can get on my CPU is 1.95GHz or so, which is around a 22% OC. I tried to break 2GHZ but it just doesn't boot. Such a shame!! I would have loved to break it!

Perhaps I'll just play around with this PC when I get my new one.

Erm wait a minute... Isn't Willamette S423? I though S423 only used RDRAM.
