Custom fitting vga fan

I need to install a vga fan over a video card that does not match it, using extenders. The fan, copper heat sink + fan setup - has extender pins for the two screw holes to match ati and nvidia sizes. The video card I need to install to is an older and/or irregular card that does not support either size, and it's set with 4 spring screws, straight into an aluminum heat sink with a plastic grip-on fan over it (broken), through holes that are too small for the bolting pins from the fan. I'm thinking of drilling a hole in one of the fan extenders (metal) and getting bolts that fit the old screws, then bolting through two of the holes. Besides the bolting mismatch, the fan would seem to go with the chip surface if it would stay in place somehow, thermal grease and all. I don't know if this video card heat sink / fan is standard, but I couldn't find any fan that matched it. I need to install this card to give away the pc. Might there be a better way to do this?

Take a picture. Maybe a 40 mm fan might work?

This is the video card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121314&RandomID=9728117317221019920111211201910
A plastic fan won't work, it needs to be the exact fan over the original heat sink or a built in fan on a heat sink that is not too big such as this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835192006 that's the fan I'm going to try installing in crude mode.

Thanks for the suggestion but I'd rather try the vga fan, or a whole new budget card if that fails. I'm my experience, not even pci fans have worked well as vga fan replacements so I don't have much faith in a bendy fan. I really can't see it staying in place in the long run.

I guess since nobody suggested it might blow up I'll go ahead with the first plans. If it fails, oh well.
