problem about streaming in new youtube

Thread Starter
hi guys, sorry if this isnt the best forum for this, i seriously browse through and didnt find anything better so i post here

In the past, when i watch a video I pick the 1080p resolution, and if it doesn't look like its loading I pause it, start doing something else, then come back and watch it after the stream is say, 30% done(or 80% if it looks REALLY slow that day)

but ever since the new site is introduced, I can't get the video to load beyond 5% of where its at.

for a 10 min video I pause and wait, it just stops and refuses to stream eventually, but when i click play, the "blurry bar" moves once again

so right now if i have to watch just a 10 min video, i might have to wait for 9 separated stream periods, although short, to watch the entire video

anyone having the same problem? is there a way to solve this?

thanks

PS: just tried, even 320p has the exact same problem, streaming stops after a certain point, which is definitely less than 10% of the video

new clue: laptop does NOT do this

laptop is using XP on IE7

desktop is windows 7 on IE9

Youtube seems to have its days and as of the last year or so, it seems to be every day, it's rare that I can even stream videos at 480p (with 6mbs DSL mind you that downloads at 650-750kb/s)

Are you on a wireless connection by chance?

well, if you're talking about the connection speed, that can't be it.

the connection to this desktop is from the wall with a router in between, but connected with wire, if that matters.

however i'm using a 100m connection....

1080p streaming can be slow at times, however, it totally stopped streaming after say 1min of video time, that was the problem. It won't matter how long you wait, it just stops streaming when it streamed "enough," and restarts if you start playing it.

for example you're at 0:00 and wait for stream, it stops at 01:00

then you're like oh thats no good, you start playing the video, it started streaming again, but the playing catches up, now the video freezes at 01:10

so you pause and wait again, this time the stream stops at 02:10 and refuse to go further

it looks like a setting problem, whether it be youtube internal programming or user setting somewhere

but this specific problem is probably not a connection problem

It's a YouTube issue, my connection is in excess of 20Mbit and sometimes 1080p streaming barely works and is constantly buffering, some videos it works fine others it doesn't.

I'm not talking about the connection speed, I was simply explaining, its youtube...not your connection because although I don't have crazy fast internet..i have more than enough to stream 720p video and even 1080 but youtube struggles to feed my connection enough to stream 480p (some of the time anyways)...it normally only downloads at about 50-100kb/s...which is like 1/8 of my download speed.

i get you man, but even if thats the case, if you wait long enough, for example you wait for 3 hours, the stream should complete, yes?

i dont have a problem with waiting as i can always go off to do something else, i have a problem with even waiting doesn't get the job done

tried clearing cookies? updating all adobe products? (flash, shockwave, etc) link. try another browser? see if streaming from another service does the same thing? (ex: vimeo)

wish you luck
