Transformer Prime is priced the same as the iPad 2 (but for 32GB instead of just 16GB). What I really love about it is the form factor. It is the slimmest tablet on the market and has the Zenbook look which is awesome. Still, the original Transformer would do everything you need it to, just not as sexy...

Since you are just wanting to read ebooks and watch movies I would recommend the Toshiba Thrive because of it's full usb port, HDMI out, SD card and a removable battery. Also I would recommend picking up a Pelican 1075 case to protect your new tablet.

Have fun with all those cell phone apps scaled to a tablet screen.

People here hate apple and so do i but Android Tabs are not mature. People talk about specs and stuff which are pointless. iPad is full of App and after trying Transformer i am not getting a Android Tab any time soon. Personally love 4:3 screen in the iPad. This way you use it in both orientations. Having the transformer i only use it one way because it was weird to use it the way iPad stands. Some of the reason i did really hate transformer was the build quality and feel. It was heavy, did not like the back, The screen would move if pressed and sharp corners. Prime fixes all this but its also not out and expensive.

As a last minute suggestion... What about a touchpad? You can get a NIB one (32gb) on Amazon or ebay for around $300. The OS is great (better than anything else around), the processor is faster than tegra 2 in every way (wider FPU, similar integer performance, faster GPU, etc). Cyanogenmod is available too (the best of both worlds). With WebOS being open-sourced and the community being extremely active, great things are in the future.

Yeah actually I've played with all of them. They all kind of felt sluggish next to iPad 2. Throw in the fact that the App store for Android tablets is mainly phone apps scaled to the tablet screen, and it seemed pretty silly to buy into it.

I'm not sure why Apple handhelds get such a hard time around here. They're great...I wouldn't buy an Apple computer but the handhelds really are top notch.

The way things are going now, there's not even going to be a tablet market, only an iPad market.
