Issues using two different sized pairs of memory

I apologize if this is in the wrong section, but I did not see a section specifically devoted to memory. Anyway I have run into a problem that I have never ran into before on a computer. I have two different pairs of ddr2 memory. They are both Gskill. First pair is Gskill DDR2 PC2-8500 2 x 2GB and a Gstkill DDR2 PC2-8500 2 x 1GB pair. They are the exact same settings, voltage, speed, brand, just different size.

Now either pair will run by themselves just fine in any slot, however, if you put the two pairs together, they board freezes at the bios screen. I have manually adjusted the voltage to the right level as the board had it at 1.8 instead of 2.0. I have also set all the ram settings manually just to see if that would help. My specs are as follows

Gigabyte GA-EP43-UD3L (motherboard)

Memory is listed above

Processor is Intel Xenon Quad Core 2.4GHz (not overclocked at the moment)

Video card is Abit Nvidia Geforced 260 896MB

Power Supply is Rosewill rp500-2 500 watt 32amp

If you need any other details, let me know.

Anyone have any idea what I can do(if possible) to use both pairs of memory?

Thanks

Sounds like something wrong with the mobo. I redid a gateway for my parents and i used 3 gigs of mixed size/brand memory and its fine. Have you tried one stick of each (2 total) yet? Also on your mobo, do the slots run in pairs 1/2, 3/4 or 1/3, 2/4?

I have tried them with just one each, and it did the same thing. It also does not matter what order you put them in, as it does the same. I have put them in the color coordinated spots, and also have tried doing the opposite of that. Same thing happens every time.

Then its your motherboard. Have you tried (gasp) updating the BIOS? I say gasp because if it works, i never touch it and you can seriously muck it up if you dont do it right.

I have updated the bios to the latest version, but it still will not work. I know its the motherboard causing it, just I know sometimes there are tweaks you can do to get around things. I am not new to computers, just have never ran into this issue before. Eventually will probably just upgrade lol.

I would stick with the 4 gigs till you can upgrade.
