Can this be beaten for 280 dollars?

ONKYO HT-S3400 5.1 Home Theater System

I would like 5.1, especially considering this is only 280 dollars marked down from 400.

Or is there a better 2.1 setup that can totally crush this?
depends if you want a 2.1 or a 5.1 i myself use a just 2 monitors not in a big hurry for a sub with my bx5a's tongue.gif

I currently use a 2.1 and I'm fine with it, but I like the idea of 5.1. I'd take a 2.1 though if it was better than my SP2500's.

I've been putting my movies on my computer and I feel like 2.1 is lacking when I've got 1080p movies playing.

Has anyone used the speakers I linked, are they quality or junk?

The BX5a are amazing monitors for the price; they are certainly superior to the SP2500 and for far less.

I would not get the Onkyo unless HT is your thing. I don't consider it a great value for the money. If you watch movies and game much more than you listen to music, the Onkyo is passable. If you're interested in a better music-listening experience the BX5as are downright incredible for the ~$150 Musician's Friend is charging for them right now.

Onkyo stuff gets marked down very frequently so don't let that influence your decision. It's certainly not a "deal."

I'm certainly more of a movie and gamer guy than I am a music person. I listen to most of my music in my car.

I have the HTS5300, and it sounds fine to me dunno if this would be much worse or not. Which, i want to sell since it sits there and collects dust hah
