Rate my build? (AMD to INTEL upgrade.)

Thread Starter
Hello everyone,

I would like to say that I have just recently switched to INTEL from AMD, and with my final build results, I would like to hear some opinions of how well I did.

(Rating from 1-10)

My purpose with this build: Gaming (Although I don't even have any games on it yet..)

CPU: i5-2500k (Stock 3.3ghz)
MOBO: ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z
GPU: EVGA Gtx560Ti
CPU COOLER: Corsair H80
HDD: HITACHI 500G
B (With the flooding.. HDD skyrocketed.. so I picked this up at $50 on sale)
ANTEC Earthwatts 750w

Do you think this was a reasonable upgrade from my old AMD build? or did I spend all this extra money for no/little performance boost.

Old build:

CPU: AMD phenom II x4 955 BE
MOBO: Asrock M3a770de
GPU: HIS Radeon HD 6850
HDD: 1TB (Gave it to my dad)
Same PSU.
CPU COOLER: CM Hyper 212+

Please give a rating from 1-10, and tell me if the money was well spent.
Thank you! thumb.gif

What case are you using? That looks like an ATX mid-tower to me.

In terms of the core components (2500K, 560 Ti) it's probably an 8 for the budget/value.

In terms of overall build probably closer to a 5 because: 1. you seem to be using a full ATX case when you could've gone with a micro-ATX case given the motherboard and 2. you're running a 2500K stock when you could be pushing 4.5-5.0+GHz given the H80 and motherboard.

Yeah......I'm a computer newbie. I don't know how to overclock, no matter how easy it is. (In terms of watching out for voltage clock.. etc etc.) I really need some help with this.. haha

And the case is CM Storm Enforcer, I've had this case before the upgrade, and I didn't want to bother getting another case. (Low $$$)
I was unable to find a budget mATX case that was suitable for me.. so I just went with the case I have now.
(Airflow was part of my concern too. Along with GPU length, CPU cooler, etc) If you could recommend me a mATX that would be fantastic for my future purchase. (Budget!)

I got a mATX board for the fact that when I transfer to an university, I'll then get a mATX case for mobility.

Depending on what you use it for (I assume gaming) you won't notice much of a difference.

Overclock the CPU as suggested already.

A smaller case would undoubtedly be more cramped and would inhibit airflow and lead to higher temps. I think you're fine with the case choice.

I would recommend picking up an SSD for your boot drive at some point. This will really make everything very snappy.

What kind of budget? For $100ish the SilverStone Temjin TJ08E gets very high marks. You'll be impressed with the airflow from such a tiny case.

What kind of camera did you use? blinksmiley.gif

Its an upgrade, but only because of the CPU.

560ti blows away a 6850 as well. I think you did well. That chip and Mobo are rock solid and will be, overclocked or not.

Are you happy with it? That's all that matters.
