Tribes:Ascend beta is awesome, keys are easy to get, and you should be playing it - Page 2

I tried this out today but its pretty much an exact copy of Section 8 Prejudice with less graphics. I'll still hop on here and there to have a bit of fun with it though. If you like Tribes:Ascend I suggest you take a look at Section 8:

Section 8 looks totally different to me... Big thing about tribes is that it's mainly about projectile weapons which means leading your target, predicting, etc. It looks like section 8 has mostly hitscan weapons.

The hit scan thing in section 8 is an ability with a cooldown and is only for 1 shot. I think it only works with certain weapons. You can't hit scan every shot or anything. Most of the time you'll be leading targets and shooting the same as in any other FPS.The game play is pretty much exactly like Tribes:Ascend. That was the 1st thing that hit me when I logged into T:A today for my 1st game.

Hitscan means when you put your crosshair over the enemy and click, it counts as a hit. IE, the way it works in CS:S or CoD. I only watched the first 2 minutes of the Section8 video but all I saw was hitscan weapons that require no leading at all, with the exception of the rocket launcher? It looks to be mostly assault rifles and stuff.

In Tribes, almost everything is a projectile (ala rocket launcher, etc), unlike any other FPS.

Section 8 also doesn't have skiing, which is a HUGE part of the game and speeds up the pace so much.

They look so different to me... Only similarity I see is the jetpack :-p

Yes I know Tribes came 1st but we weren't talking about that. Were talking about Tribes:Ascend. And they do look very different but the gameplay of section 8 feels exactly like Tribes:Ascend to me. Thats all I was saying. Having played both and all. I wasn't trying to make it out like T:A sucks just saying they feel the same to me. biggrin.gif

Forget Section 8. I believe this topic is about Tribes Ascend. thumb.gif

Downloading now, thanks. Wonder if I'll get anything nice for being a paying Global Agenda player?

The only thing you'll receive is the recognition that Hi-Rez will end up destroying this game (and franchise) much like how they turned Global Agenda from something actually fun and competitive with a LOT of potential during the first 8-12 months, to something they used to milk players with microtransactions for boosters/flair to invest in other games (like T:A)....whilst completely neglecting the imbalances that existed in its touted AvA mode (agency versus agency) and neglecting the game itself. That's why it never truly became competitive, despite the fact that, for the entire year that I played it, I knew I was playing something different, ridiculously fun and with a LOT of potential, yet they refused to actually refine the entire competitive nature of the game and I ended up quitting because the entirety of the multiplayer aspect turned into using the cheapest tactics/tech/imbalanced teams to win every match/round after the last major balance patch (which oddly enough made one of the 4 classes useless and OP'd 2 of the other 3).

I see the exact same scenario happening with Tribes: Ascend; it'll be a great honeymoon period, it'll appear like the devs are listening to the community and the players, and then Hi-Rez will eventually end up destroying the game due to abuse of microtransactions for meaningless items/imbalances/lack of decent anti-cheat (and of course this is all after they've sucked as much money from you as possible).

I guess i'm biased since I was rooting for Hi-Rez with Global Agenda but the way they treated that game in its prime left a totally bitter taste in my mouth, and I don't think i'll ever invest another dollar or heck, even download another F2P game from them ever again. It was fun while it lasted though....which reminds me...I still have ~40million in credits tied to my Global Agenda account...lol.
