BD has no meaning with its price range, it should be sub-200$

Right, but the fx-8120 can hit higher than 4.2.... He was just pointing out how easy it is to OC the BD, and that the 1090T had a much harder time, even staying at 4ghz. Depends on the chip tho.

This wasnt advertising, it was AMD reps denying benchmarks were even in the right ballpark and generally misleading consumers. Especially when the HORRENDOUSLY bad numbers surfaced for anything single threaded.

The original BD claims were something like 50% better throughput across the board at similar clocks (in comparison to Thuban). In what way does BD have 50% more throughput than Thuban? One special case, maybe two? Not to mention all the hype started by using the "FX" brand.

I should have known things were bad when the story changed to, "Outperforms i5 / i7 at high resolution!"

I dont think BD is bad and not worthy of use. I dont plan on selling mine. Im more upset that their marketing dept pushed so hard at proving a point that they, in part, caused alot of the backlash. I understand that you have to make investors happy, but geez. It builds a bad reputation for AMD regardless of the forward looking nature of their new design.

If they could technically have 8 or even 10 core Thuban on 32nm meaning they jumped to BD too early, I wish AMD a wiser CEO. Did they find a new one btw ? Or is it still interim ?

8-10 core Thuban is impractical. the crossbar interface on the chip would take up more than the cores.

Regardless, even as a quad core it's going to pull about the same power as SB and produce half the performance. It has bad performance per watt no matter how you try to present it.

And I see that you BD haters are still throwing around the same benchmarks from when BD was released.

These charts are no good anymore. This tests were done with apm enabled on bulldozer which makes them useless. There benchmarks are not up to date and do not show performance of BD today. How long are you guys gonna post up the same charts over and over again. BD performance today is a whole lot better than it was at release. When are you guys going to realize this. Stop posting useless charts and graphs that are months old. Get someone who has BD today with latest bios that disables all power saving features to post some benchmarks of BD (unlike the one you have hear).

You talk all this trash about BD but it seems that you cannot stop talking about. For someone who doesn't like the chip, you sure spend a lot of time talking about it. Either give in and admit that BD is a decent chip or get out. Its like talking to a 14 yr old girl thats not getting her way. Grow up already. Its getting real old.


Nice excuse, but it's simply untrue.

If bulldozer was suffering from APM why than is it perfectly capable of maintaining the same frame rates while looking at a still screen?

APM throttles when a sensor on the die determines the chip is beyond its marketed thermal envelope. Load spikes can cause it to clock down if that sensor guessing TDP goes over the threshold.

This looks like a combination of APM and turbo kicking on in alternating fashion.

The only other conclusion I could possibly reach from these graphs is that windows thread management (musical threads) is causing the cores to stall when switching threads from module to module.

Does it really matter either way? Much like a lot of BD's apparent shortcomings, the power consumption "issue" is entirely overblown. If anyone sat down and did some math, you'd find that if you ran your BD computer at full load 24 hours a day, it would amount to all of $10 more per month in electricity costs--but please understand the perspective of that calculation--that's assuming $0.15/kw-hr and that the entire system consumes 100w more than a comparable intel system, and that everything in the system is run under full load all day everyday for a month. No one's ever going to do that, so no one who uses BD will honestly see any noticeable difference in power consumption.

For those of you that talk about BD like you designed it, you are making yourself look dumb because you probably have zero experiene with the chip and if you do it was only when it first came out. When I first got my 8120 it did suck and I was really close to getting rid of it but I held on to it for a little longer and I am glad I did. If you really want to find out, go find someone with an 8 core fx chip and see if they will let you try it out. Make sure they have latest bios and go to town on it. That is all I can tell you. Go try the chip out with current bios and then tell me what you think. Until then what you say means nothing.

I would never believe someone that says intel sucks if they have never tried intel chips. and that goes for anything. You can say anything about anything but if you have never experienced it then your word means nothing.

Try BD and then talk about it. Dont just talk about it.
