Looking for Best Gaming Monitor

Thread Starter
I'm looking to get a new monitor for gaming. I currently have a Samsung P2370 that I use for my PC/Xbox.

I've been looking into getting a new monitor for a while now but I need some direction.

I was considering getting a 27 inch, but I'm living at school (University/College) so I don't have too much space, although I thought 27 inch would be nice when watching TV. I've heard some people say that 27 is a bit big for FPS gaming (CoD) so I guess I'd probably go with something smaller.

What size would you say is best for FPS gaming?

I've been looking into different LED's for a while but can't really decide.

I read that the Samsung PX2370 is a great monitor, but I can't find it anywhere. I'd like to spend <$400 if possible.

I'd need an HDMI and a DVI connection along with audio out so I can use it with my PC and my Xbox.

Any recommendations? I'd like something really good, and I'm leaning towards Samsung, but I've heard good things about Asus/Viewsonic.

I don't really need 3D, and $700 is a bit much.

Tian, I don't think you can get either of those monitors for under $400.

OP, all of those brands are good, to that I would add Acer. If you're interested in IPS, Dell's Ultrasharps would be my recommendation, but some people say the refresh rate is too slow for FPS games. That's preference though. I don't know how well watching TV would work out on it, do you have a tuner card for your pc?
A final note on the ultrasharps, they have VGA, displayport, and DVI inputs. So you have to think about if you can use that, you might need some adapters. You definitely need one for the xbox.

I just picked up a Samsung B2330HD. Like you, I wanted something for PC and Xbox usage. I got it off Amazon for about $230 shipped. It has 2 HDMI inputs as well as a built in tv tuner. Also has component and VGA, but no DVI or displayport.

Reviews basically say that the colors aren't the best, but on a TN monitor I don't know what you're expecting. It's basically a multipurpose monitor, it kind of falls into the whole jack of all trades master of none category. But so far I like it.

IPS monitor's response time is supposed to be too low for really fast paced games. I don't know has anyone tried gaming on an IPS? I'm not to picky on colours, but good detail, lighting, and no ghosting are all good.

I saw people say that the best Samsung monitors are the PX2370 and XL2370, but I think both have been discontinued :\

The 5 ms response time on the B2330 is probably a bit slow for games, not entirely sure, but I'd prefer 2ms.

I do have a TV tuner, but I mostly download shows.

Any more suggestions, I'm leaning towards a 23-24 inch monitor, and I want something high end (not 3D, unneeded) without wasting money.

I'm in Canada so my options are a little more limited, but pretty much we have newegg.ca tigerdirect.ca amazon.ca futureshop.ca bestbuy.ca canadacomputers.com although I might be able to find things on other sites if you know of a good monitor.

I found this site: http://www.squidoo.com/lcd-monitors

Recommends: Asus ML238H and Viewsonic VX2453MH

It says the Asus has 5.05 ms input lag and 2 ms response.

I'm still having a really tough time deciding whether I should get another 23-24 inch monitor, or go with a 27. Anyone help me decide? Will I need to sit further away to game on the 27?

Would 120 hz make any difference for gaming on the Xbox? If so the BenQ XL2410T looks pretty good: http://canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_700_705&item_id=037643
