Questions on OCing my northwood past 3.2GHz

Thread Starter
I have a P4 nw rated at 2.4 and I have successfully OCed it to 3.2 (200x12 --> 266x12) with barely any heat issues with my stock heatsink/fan. When I try to go past a 266mhz fsb I get lock ups and other common problems. Since I'm new to OCing I have a few questions:
First, do I need to add more voltage? If so, my motherboard (Gigabyte model 8IG1000MK) bios has no vcore moding available, even in advanced (ctrl+f1) mode where it gives me extra settings.
Is it able to go above 3.2, and will it be worth it if I am able to?
Thanks for any help

there could be several limiting factors with this.. yes.. you might not have enough voltage to the cpu.. it could also be your ram that is limiting your clock.. as far as your chip being able to go furthor.. it all depends on your stepping of the northwood.. your power supply could also be a limiting factor as well.. i see you started to edit your system specs.. please go back and fill out the missing info.. if you are unsure .. just list unsure.. so .. what is your PSU.. and how many watts .. post up your CPU-Z screen as well.. and are you stable at 3.2 how long have you ran prime95 for.. if your cpu has hyper threading make sure you run two isntances of prime95 one on the real core and one on the virtual core.. see if ya pass..

That's a decent PSU...Basically do what trippen said - loosen RAM timings, increase voltage, put RAM on a divider, etc. Nice OC, BTW.

dude if your cpuz is true.. you dont need to increase the vcore.. 1.6 is really high.. and if ya cant adjust it .. i dont see why it would be that high.. i would check your temps and your ram.. run mem check on it at those speeds your already on a 3:2 divider you can trying going one step down and see if that helps
