If its gonna be used for basic computing and internet use, that sounds like a nice little computer. That is basically what my other computer is.

AMD Athlon 64 3000+, Chaintech SK8T800, Radeon 9550 AGP 8x, 512megs PC2700, Western Digital 80gig hdd, DiabloTek Demon case

I got my cpu on Ebay for $95.00 brand new. This was when they were retailing for $180.00. Check out Ebay, you might find a good deal.

AM2 is the way to go right now, but ram prices are high...

Motherboard:
$55, $45 after rebate ($6 shipping)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813185084

Cpu:
$151 ($0 shipping)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103735

Ram:
$125 + $5 shipping, 2 x 512mb, 4-4-4-12 timings: here
$130 + $5 shipping, 1gb, 5-5-5-15 timings: here

PSU:
$40 (free shipping) $30 after rebate:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153023

Hard drive:
$44 + $5 shipping:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822135106

DVD-RW:
$29 (free shipping):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827152058

Case:
$10 + $12 shipping (lol):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811212028

$462 after shipping and rebates, $487 before rebates

The specs are
AMD X2 3800+
512mb x 2 ddr800 ram, timings of 4-4-4-12
80gb hard drive
430w psu
dvd-rw drive
onboard (6100) video

For a decent gaming video card, add $95 (7600gs):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143054

With the video card the whole system is $580 before rebates and after shipping. While it's not the cheapest, it's going to be the best bang for the buck right now. The $580 verison gets about 4000 points in 3dmark05, about 2000 points in 3dmark06.

$95 for a 7600gs ddr2, 128bit
$70 for a 7300gt ddr2, 64bit

The 7600gs is a better buy IMO.

If you have the extra 25 bucks it's a far better buy, I've owned both and hands down the 7600 is worth every penny extra.
