i7 920 + Rampage II Extreme OC

So for the past two days I have been messing around and trying to achieve that 24/7 4.0 Ghz overclocck with HT on.
I have tried many different settings which people suggested. Most of them telling me to put VTT (QPI/DRAM) voltage to 1.35 and vcore to 1.35.
Yesterday I decided to set the qpi/dram voltage to 1.2 (the lowest possible setting for my motherboard). I set it to 191x21, ram to 1532 and UCLK to 3064.
Everything else is pretty much set to auto. Surprisingly I am stable with such a low qpi/dram voltage. Lowering vcore past 1.34 seems to be unstable.
Is there anything else I can do to decrease the vcore? CPUZ shows 1.336 V while idle and up to 1.38 when at 100% load.

Enabling Load-Line Calibration in your BIOS should allow you to be stable at a lower vcore.

Nice OC thumb.gif, as to your question I haven't personally OCed and 1st gen i7s, but for the Vcore Intel recomended max is 1.36ish volts, absolute max is 1.45V.

I think you should just be happy with what you got, lol. On my old C0 revision I need more vcore than that just to run 3.6 Ghz.

What you've got is fine for long term use.

What bothers me is that almost every single suggestion on a forum is "Increase cpu voltage".

focuses on leaving the cpu vcore alone for a while and focusing on qpi/dram first and finding the sweet spot for it and THEN messing with the vcore.

Update:

I have managed to find stable voltages for 211 bclk and 19 multiplier.
1.2250 vtt.
i left ioh on auto but i might change to 1.3 because the guide says it might improve stability at clocks over 200 bclk.

My concern is that I am running 1268MHz RAM and I would really like to run it at 1600 (what it's made to run).

I want to stay away from the 21 multiplier because I plan to use speedstep and c1e after I find the stable settings and the turbo 21 multiplier interferes with the speedstep and c1e settings (sometimes goes into 22 multiplier and clocks it higher than it should run).

So my only options are 19 and 20 multipliers. I've had no luck on 20 multiplier for some reason and like it's been said before, the 920 does not like even numbered multipliers for some reason.

What are my options? I think 1600mhz ram will provide a lot more performance than 1200 because the uclk will be 3200 vs. 2400.

OR

Is there a way to use the 21x multiplier with the power saving features (speedstep, c1e, etc). My main concern is for the cpu to not go into the 22x multiplier. I just want it to go to 21x when at stress and drop to like 12 or whatever when idle. Is that possible?

200 x20 will put you at 4.0ghz and ram at 1603

This is a common issue with the i7 and X58. The x21 and x19 multi is stable while x20 isn't. people started recommending odd number multipliers just for this reason. I know with the NVIDIA chipset, certain FSB speeds caused instability because the speeds had an affect on other system frequencies resulting in an unstable system, or not even boot (issue was called, "FSB Hole"). So it seems to be a similar issue with the x20 multi. As for your ram, you can try losening the timings and pushing to the next closest speed to 1600.

I thought I was stable at 191x21 with 1.2 vtt and 1.33750 vcore because I pased 15 runs of LinX.
I lowered vcore to 1.3250, bsod in prime95 blend.
Increased vcore to 1.33125, bsod in prime 95 blend.
Increased vcore back to 1.33750 (which I thought was stable), crashed after 3 hours in p95 blend with bsod code D1 (according to bsod code list it's qpi/dram voltage problem).
I will try to increase vtt 1 notch and see how it goes.
I really hate overclocking this horrible cpu, but I want to get 4.0 or at LEAST 3.8.
