Couple Q's: Why isn't my memory being used? Yes I have 64bit Set sys memory for video?

So I am gaming, video editing, photo editing, using Fraps, etc... Still my memory is only ever up to 24%? What gives?

Also, how do I set W7 to use some of this memory for video?

See system specs below. Thanks!

Its only ever going to use as much memory as it needs. Adding more memory wont make something use more memory, it will still use the same amount. Also there is very little performance improvement associated with more ram. I have 8 gigs and my system rarely uses more than 3.

Because the applications only need as much. If you want to utilize the RAM, go for RAM Disk http://www.overclock.net/t/1162725/free-ram-disk-software

As said, it's only going to use as much as is needed.

Hmmm... I guess, but as far as I can tell, I'm doing some pretty memory extensive tasks and it still stays below or just barely over the 4GB mark.. That's why I paid $250 for this stuff. I may RMA the other 2 sticks if this is the case.

Thanks for the replies.

Thanks for the replies.

You don't RMA if there's nothing wrong, not knowing your memory requirements isn't the manufacturer's fault.

Also, even if the application is doing memory intensive stuff, it won't use it indefinitely.

Whatever you're doing, it's not hardcore enough to eat 16GB.

Thanks for the replies.

Bad memory won't be detected or will cause random restarts and bluescreens. If you're showing 16GB RAM and not crashing, there is no reason to return any sticks. Well you could RMA 2 working sticks, but I doubt you'd see any difference.

I've never once hit my capacity of 8GB memory, even with Chrome using(leaking) gigabytes of memory in the background while gaming.

Programs are still written with 32-bit systems in mind, so most apps rarely use more than 2GB RAM. The only things that could possibly use a significant portion of 16GB memory is encoding multiple ultra-res video streams concurrently, intensive 3D rendering, multiple massive photoshop projects, or scientific computing.

That said, RAM is cheap. If I were building a new mid-range system, I'd probably still pick up 16GB of RAM.
