Razer Blackwidow Keys feel....different?

Thread Starter
Hello,
I recently bought the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate keyboard. The keyboard is great but the keys feel different from Blue Cherry's. I tested my keyboard side-by-side with my Aunt's DasKeyboard and my keys feel a bit heavier. Am I just being paranoid or is this a real problem?

Thanks,
Dividan

I find every mech feels slightly different (there are of course a few exceptions), even if they have the same switch type...

I have a BW and a DAS with blues and I notice it too so if you are crazy, you're not alone wink.gif

If one of the keyboards has plate mounted switches and the other has PCB mounted then that could be the difference.

The BW is plate mounted. I don't know about the das it might be PCB. Switches do tend to vary in feel from board to board though so it is pretty normal.

(Haha I wrote that a wile ago before anyone replied but I forgot to send it.)

Thanks. Good to know I was starting to get a little worried. So far I love this keyboard, it's my first mechanical keyboard. I had my doubts about people saying you "Won't be able to go back to regular keyboards" but it's entirely true. I have my old keyboard hooked up to my Linux machine and now I hate typing on it XD. Anyways thanks again guys thumb.gif

(P.S Typing on this thing is absolutely amazing. typer.gif )

Pretty sure das is also plate mounted.

Also, it could just be the das has more wear to it than your brand new razer.

I'm sorry but i'm about to go offtopic for a bit here but I have a question.
Atm I have a DAS keyboard (best keyboard money can buy, i'm serious.) but I kinda broke it.
I'm going to send it back for repairs but I have to send it to the US so that might take a while.
So I wanted to buy a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate but I'm wondering if that board sounds the same as the DAS keyboard.

Does it sound the same or does it really sound as wierd as youtube makes me believe?
(but people on youtube have crappy mics so can't really relate to that)

Amputate, yes the BlackWidow Ultimate does make the same sound as the DasKeyboard (In my opinion it sounds even better). Although alot of people say that the BlackWidow is very loud it really isn't bad.
So far I have had zero issues with this keyboard. The keys feel great, a bit heavy but great. The backlighting is really great too. My only gripe is that paying $50 more dollars for backlighting seems stupid, but I can't live without backlighting so it was worth it. Overall I would recommend it, although make sure you buy from Best Buy or any place you can return it. I hear there are some quality control issues, although so far I have had none.

Yeah, it is a great keyboard I have the battlefield 3 edition. I think it is definitely hit or miss on getting one without problems though. The first one I got I had to take back as the Q button didn't work. The second one I got works like a charm and I'm loving every minute of it.

The difference can be attributable:

1. Use, the longer you use it the looser the mechanism will be. However i don't think there is a significant break in period of these switches.
2. Individual batches of switches from Cherry Corp having the same type may have deviation in actuation force required. Although I don't have the spec sheets in front of me I wouldn't say plus minus 10 grams would be out of the question for normal keys that have passed through QA. Keeping in mind that a key may weigh something like 5 grams there may be as large as a 20 percent difference between two different keys.
3. Different board layouts. Depending on how angled your hands are (the razer has a pseudo palm rest) you may the mechanics of you pressing keys may be different. This will contribute greatly to how much force you THINK you need. Try inclining your board on the feet and not inclining it the difference is subtle but it is there.
4. The keycaps may weigh different amounts. It may seem trivial but we are talking about less than a hundred grams of force. Even a gram of deviation between two keys will represent about a 2 percent difference in the force needed to actuate the keys.
5. You may just be paranoid?
