Asus direct cu II gtx 580 overclocking

Hey guys. im not new in anyway to overclocking, just need some advice. I replaced my 2 gtx 460's with a single 580 and one of the said 460's running physx. I am having some issues overclocking the 580 1.5gb. (got it as an open box at fry's for $450 with mail in rebate).

I can hit 860mhz with stock voltage. but anything over that requires more voltage. Now here's the issue. I can run occt for a good 5 mins without giving error's @ 890mhz @ 1.113v... did i just get a bad overclocking card?

It is on air....

I am using occt for a good 5 mins each run for testing the stability. the thing is. after a good 10 mins of solid testing it will give an error or 2. Ive heard that the vrm's will cause error'ing if they got too hot.

unfortunately everything over 920mhz at 1.15v or similar will start to cause lower benchmarks. IE: occt coef: 24, fps: 4.0

any suggestions?

1: Are you leaving your fans on auto? Don't do that if you are while testing. Either establish a fan program in MSI Afterburner or set the fan to 80% manual while testing or even 100%

2. In my overclock I am at 950 with volts at 1.125. I think I even used that up to 975 but was not stable enough at 975.

Now I am in the process of switching out new motherboard, processor, ram etc... so will see how my 950 overclock will hold up in the new system. Would love to see if I could get a stable 1000 but also don't want to over do it and not certain when volts on the gpu is to much. So 950 works and I am happy with that.

nope. I always set a fan profile in msi afterburner. basically almost always @ 100% when testing. I'll see if setting it at 100% manual helps the temps..even though ive never hit above 80c (only came close to 79c because i forgot to plug in my side fan on my haf 932 woops). now temps are better.
