[Toms] EA: No Patches for Battlefield 3 Outside Origin - Page 5

The problem with Origin is that it is inderterministic software. Origin thinks that we are all sitting on 50mbps internet and will happily download a game over and over in an attempt to patch it. I say this because I suffered through this.
I got the stock BF3 files off a friend . Origin wanted to download 5.9 GB on my BF3 installation. After that it wanted to download 9.2 GB.. My BF3 installation was perfectly functional, all that was needed was the B2K update. I say this because I had played BF3 online couple of weeks before the patch.

So instead of downloading another 9.2 GB, I had my friend update his game. There it only downloaded 3.9 gb (normal). Then I copied off his BF3 folder to my pc and ran origin. Now origin is happy and doesnt want to download anything.

With manual or external patches, atleast one can be sure that there need not be anymore downloading to be done.

Btw, to whoever said that you can't run Steam on two computers at once, have you tried using Offline mode? I know that whole cyber cafes do this sometimes and only have a single Steam account.

My big take-away from this is that BF3 will never be on steam, ever.

Sucks, but probably true now. All those rumors of a deal with Valve must have been garbage.

I smell lawsuit.

*sigh* rolleyes.gif

This is what happens when people jump on bandwagons when the driver is heading for the edge of a cliff/already jumped out.

Origin was already a required service for BF3, regardless of purchase method/location.

All this means is that Origin is needed to patch BF3, which anyone who installed BF3 already has on their machine.

The less games on steam or origin, the better. unless you have unlimited 100mb/s internet

What the Aussies wanted was the ability to host the file locally since their ISPs are really, really touchy about international downloads.

i don't really see a problem. I'm an Aussie and for $90 a month i get 400gb which i can't use in a month even downloading stuff off utorrent lol....even on the cheapest plan thru my ISP i think its like $39mth and you still get like 20gb.

I don't really see the big issue here either. I mean, we have to use Origin no matter what in order to play. I mean, yes the increasing digital platform way of doing things does suck for those with bad internet or capped internet. So I guess I do understand for those in that situation.

Whats wrong with Steam. I would rather have steam overlay on my games then not have it. I use steam chat quite a lot. Even my non steam games I launch though steam just so I don't have to alt tab out of the game. Also is really nice having a web browser right there.

Origin has that too. Besides you can just disable one and use the other. Or even better have both up and just use different hot keys to switch between the two.
