How do I know if my GPU overclock is stable?

Title says it all, do I just run games and see if they artifact or crash to see if it works or not? Btw is memory relevant to OC gpus?

Few runs of 3DMark11 on extreme, FurMark is another ideal tester.

Games will be the ultimate test but as Mhill2029 stated run 3DMark11 a few times. If it doesn't crash and you don't see any artifacts you're probably good to go. Furmark is good too, as is Heaven.

As for memory OC'ing, you'll see some benefit from it. I was told to OC the core to max stable then bump whatever memory OC I could get out of it.
My personal favorite test is Unigine Heaven DX11 with 2 or 4x AA enabled. I find this to be more taxing than 3DMark Vantage or 3DMark11, and it roots out unstable OCs in minutes. I'm always game stable if I can pass two Heaven runs with AA.

Memory is not nearly as influential as core speed. If you can get 10MHz on the core at the expense of 30MHz memory, go with the faster core speed.

Are those a little bit dangerous to use, can it mess up my card? I am never going to touch the voltage on my card also.

EDIT: and how long do these tests lasts? I am about to go with Furmark

As long as your not touching voltages you cannot mess up a card, volt adjusting is what does that.

Just keep an eye out for artifacting and temperatures throughout your testing...as soon as you see artifacting stop the test and back down a bit.

I don't recommend FurMark. I think it is actually dangerous and does not prove anything except how good of a heater your card can make. It's a very bad stability test but good for generating needless, unrealistic amounts of heat.

If your other components such as the PSU aren't top-notch running FurMark is putting your system in jeopardy, for naught.

Traditional run-through benches and games. Once again, I prefer Heaven but it's alright to be thorough with stuff like 3DMark thrown in too.
